I had a MMC in september and now just gota new BFP. Very excited and nervous. I am wondering if you are supposed to do anything differently when you have a pregnancy after a loss. Are you recommended to go to the doctor earlier than before and do they monitor you more frequently? My first time around they said I didn't need to go in until I was about 9 to 10 weeks along. Would they want me in earlier this time?

Hi firstly congrats on the BFP! :happydance: Secondly I know how worrying it can be getting pregnant again after loss.
I know different areas of the country or different countries handle things differently. But myself after 2 previous losses havent been monitered frequently. (which i think is quite disgusting because i think they should after 1 loss)
I had some cramping when i first got my BFP so had 2 scans at EPU but i wouldnt of got these if i hadnt of gone to urgent care.

I would recommend u tell you GP as soon as bcos Midwife may want to see you earlier or your GP might be able to give u better advice if you express your worries. I know in some cases GP's have referred people for an early scan!

Wishing you a happy && healthy 9 months

thank you so much zoe! I thought no one would reply. congrats to you too! I think unless something happens like blood or cramping I will try to wait till I am 5-6 weeks and then call and see what they say. thanks!

Your welcome  Ive just had my midwife appointment & i told her how worried I was she said the littest bleed I get (if i get prayingnot) she will send me for a scan.
So hopefully your midwife will be the same with you.

Congratulations. Im popping back in hope thats ok. I wasnt monitored anymore either.I was told that as it was an early loss there was no need. I did bleed again so i did get early scans but that was for freash bleeding. Hopefully your more lucky.

No I didn't get any additional care due to my mmc in August either. But I'm in the UK and I notice you're in the US so it may be different for you.

I went private for an early scan.

Congratulations on your BFP.

i had mmc in Jan10 and was told by epu that i could self refer when i got pg again, so i did, got an early scan and bloods. havent even told mw or gp yet

I haven't been handled differntly I think. I had early scans & bloods done but that was due to suspected ectopic.

My doctor didn't recommend that we do anything beyond the usual prenatal care, but has been really great about letting me decide what I need to feel comfortable. I got pregnant again very quickly after my mmc, and was a wreck.

He usually doesn't see pregnant patients until around 12 weeks, and this time when I called for an appointment I was told he was all booked up until 14 weeks. I told them I was really worried as I had already lost my baby by that point the last time, and so he agreed to come in on his lunch hour to see me at 9 weeks. Although there was no medical indication, he told me he would be more than willing to send me for an early ultrasound just because he thought that I really needed to see this baby. He also offered to test hcg levels, which I declined.

I hope you find someone who can offer some support. All the best :hugs:
