As the title says... Thought it would be nice to hear about other peoples little traditions/ the special little things you do every year. It is our first year as a family and first year spending Christmas on our own at our house so looking for ideas to start. Was thinking of something like getting new pjs on on Christmas eve snuggling down with a take away and watching a christmasy DVD.

Thats pretty much what we did growing up and we've brought it to 'our new' family now too. I work xmas eve so OH picks me up when I finish, do last minute bits and bobs like put the turkey in its brine, clean up again lol, get bath done and let amelie open her new pjs and story then she goes off to bed and me and oh get a chinese then lay the presents out for amelie under the tree :cloud9: Cant wait!

Sounds lovely I'm so excited even tho lo is so young she won't understand but will lovely to be a little family at Christmas time

We do one gift the night before....I think it has always been PJ's. It's cute. We all wear them to bed & wake up Christmas morning in them.

My parents gave us new pjs the night before as well, as you get older you realise it's so you look smart in the Christmas day home videos

When I was growing up my mum always put a present under our pillows just before we went to bed. Said Santa brought one last present before bed. We have started to do this with my 3 year old and will carry on doing it with lo aswell. X

Oh I like that idea.. a present on christmas night!

Aww thats cute

When i was wee we ALWAYS went out for dinner on christmas eve, came home and went to mass (only some years not always), then we opened a pressie then up to bed :D

Now DH wow his family are odd lol they open ALL presents on christmas eve so they can have a long lie on christmas day?!!!???!?!?!

Now LO has come along we do our own traditions, we open one little present from under the tree and then put LO's pressies out and take pics then bed.

I'm liking the take away and christmas movie... but to be honest thats just a friday night in my house just now! hehehe

I've watched Fred Claus 8 times this week and Home Alone twice

hehe xxx

New jammies, bath, hot chocolate and a Christmas film :) and everyone HAS to be in bed before midnight for Santa coming!

Haha Babydance Ive watched home alone this week too :)

That makes 3 of us having watched home alone this week love those films they make make me feel so christmasy wohoo 3 months today. Some really nice ideas I just can't wait

Same here!
I want to do that with Lyrik but she will be 5 months so she wont understand it!

my other half is just after saying "getting to the shops before they close to do the shopping"
such a last minute man!

I always have a Christmas eve present for my boys to open, usually a book or a game to play before bed. We always leave a glass bottle of coke and Cookie for Santa and a carrot and milk for Rudolph :) Tbh I prefer Christmas Eve :) Christmas day is such a rush for me.

Well... my Christmas tradition has been to go out in town in fancy dress and come home just after celebrating with some Christmas music in the pub at midnight.

I definately need a new "child friendly" tradition this year. Thinking of maybe going to visit my best friend mid-late afternoon. Then the evening at home with... yup... you guessed it... new PJs and a Christmassy film. Rock and roll xx

We usually watch a christmassy dvd in the morning, usually A Muppets Xmas Carol!! and then go to my nans for the afternoon, then in the evening we come home and have a small tea and usually have one pressie to open. We'll probably do the same this year xx

When I was little we would have a 'special treat' for tea, usually a happy meal then go home and all have baths, hair wash etc, we would have new pjs to put on then a mince pie put out for santa, a story from mum & dad and then straight to sleep or else santa wouldn't come, and we weren't allowed to get out of bed before 7am haha! Then we would all take our santa pressies into mum and dads bedroom and all sit on the bed opening santa pressies, we would have breakfast, get dressed in our new posh dresses and watch a christmas movie whilst mum and dad sorted christmas dinner, then we would start opening our main pressies and other pressies from family members and have dinner at 2ish.

OH thinks we are really weird because it is a tradition we have kept going for years, except instead of a happy meal we have a chinese and no one reads me a story anymore haha

OH, his brothers and sister used to be up at 6am, would eat a bit of breakfast and then open all their pressies first thing in the morning, and I think that is weird :haha:

..

This year we will have a family day watching xmas movies, with yummy christmas snacks, bath, new pjs and story for Amelia, then when she has settled we will have a chinese and a few drinks and watch a movie then make sure everything is spot on for christmas morning. I am so so so excited!! :happydance:

xXx

when living with the parents,we'd put new pjs on and have a xmas film fest..then have a turkey sandwiche with nans home made onions supper.

Our tradition is just to have everyone there to open all the presents and then eat.. We all then sit around the fire watching eastenders  There is 13 of us who cram into mums living room!

Each Christmas Eve, Eloise is given two presents to open. A new pair of PJ's to wear to bed that night, and a 'christmas' themed book to read at bedtime. At least then we know she'll look good for photo's in the morning! :) xx

We have decided to give lo a present on Xmas eve of a book too
