Do you like where you live?

We live in a rented 2 bed back to back terrace near Leeds.

I love living in an old house, I was really excited to look at the 1911 census and see who was living here then. A girl with the same name as me and two teenage brothers. The girl was a lot older and the mother was deceased. They lived with their father.

I imagine to myself that maybe the mum died in child birth with the youngest and so the girl had to stop home and look after them instead of getting married. The two boys probably went to fight in WWI. I wonder if they believed it would 'be over by Christmas' and I wonder if they came home alive.

I love the fact that the front steps are worn away, I love thinking how many people have stepped up them. I love the fact that a girl with the same name as me was sitting on the same floor boards 100 years ago (possibly not with a bean bag like me haha). I love the fact that children were probably born here.

The house itself is not perfect for us and I think we might move on within the next year, but I do love making stories for it and wondering what the walls could tell me about its history.

Sorry if that all sounds ridiculous!

^^ not ridiculous at all. I LOVE that and I wish I lived in a really really old house!!

Yep, compared to the last house it's awesome. I'm majorly into cars and where we live now has a little garage over the road.

I love the house we live in. The area could be a bit better, but the house makes it for us. It's rented, but it really has our stamp on it now. It's very "us".

Yes I like where we live. It has a lovely big field at the front of the house where the kids can play in. The estate itself is quiet and although Barnsley might not have a fantastic reputation I don't venture into the city centre, and the part I live in is quiet and quite rural, though close enough to shops and amenities.

As for my house, except for the fact that I wish we had more bedrooms, yes I like it a lot. And we own it ourselves which is nice, it feels like it's ours if you know what I mean.

There used to be a big mill right in front of our house and our houses were the supervisors houses. They were built around 1900. It's crazy to think about how many people have lived here!

Our house was built in the 30's on a private estate. The estate its self is really old and the original house still exists but our house is not *that old*. x

Ooh a few old Exeter gals! :). Isil yeah I love that we're near the sea, I grew up near the sea so I couldn't live too far from it!
I love old houses, mine is a new build (12 years old) so no interesting history :(. The houses across from ours are older though and full of character so they're nice to look at :)

Ahhh it's weird I guess it depends on where you grew up, but I have always lived in old Victorian houses, never thought about it too much but would love to find out the history of some of the houses I've lived in! My mum lived in a really old barn conversion for a few years when I was in Bristol and I swear it was haunted!

My cousins SIL lives in a barn conversion and apparently there's a ghost who tries to bend women over in what was the hay loft :haha:

I like my area it's like a parallel universe version of my mum and dad's area 200 miles away, even the local boots is a clone of theirs and both areas have similar types of shops and houses and are quite hilly and leafy. The only bad point about my area is its a bit too upmarket so we could never afford to buy or rent privately here, a 2 bedroom flat is about 400 grand and the cheapest 3 bedroom houses about 700 grand. Also it's a bit too close to TOWIE territory for my liking they even filmed some stuff in our town centre. The library is literally around the corner and there's loads of other stuff going on. I quite like our flat too, we got the last new build to ever go up on the bidding system in our old area that we could have got, after that they no longer had any out of area properties.

Our flat is much bigger than our old house but much easier to clean and maintain. Also our lift comes almost right up to our front door and comes out directly next to the underground car park and the front pedestrian entrance of the flats. We know a lot of people who live in newbuild flats where they have to walk down a massive long corridor to get in the lift then have to walk down a long corridor again once they get out of the lift so we're really lucky in that regard. I just don't like our housing association they are useless and really squander the service charge money as they don't spend it on anything they are supposed to and we've had to make formal complaints on a few occasions just to get them to do the most basic communal repairs etc. Repairs actually inside our flat they are great, come within 24 hours and don't balk at basic electrical and plumbing repairs like some other housing associations who say those are not their problem. The other problem we have here are inconsiderate and quite frankly chavvy scum who dump furniture all over the place, let their kids destroy the external fittings and landscaping and just cause a general nuisance-thankfully some of these people have been evicted but a lot of the damage they caused has just been left by the housing association and not repaired. At least these days it's very quiet around here so it had improved a lot xx

Yes, I love it. I live in Rural Shropshire & it's perfect.
And under 20miles to Chester for the City life!

I love it all..apart from when bad weather cuts u off.

I love our house and the area is okay but I preferred the area we used to live in mainly coz it was closer to friends and family.

We love in a simplex at the mo and I hate it... There's no privacy, we live on a main road so it's noisy, the lounge barely gets any light into it because of trees and it's not big enough. I miss houses and can't wait till we buy our own next year :)

yes and no.

we live in a medium sized village about 15minuet bus ride away from wolverhampton which is named the 5th worst city in the WORLD.

but where we live is a very sought after area, although with neither of us having a car at the moment it feels like a prison!

theres bus links to wolves every 20mins but i just cannot take the kids there i HATE it.

theres a small park,2 lakes a sainsburys dr's dentists 2 pubs and some small shops all in the centre about a 5 min walk away.

our street is very quiet verging on boring as hell, our next door neighbours a bitch but we dont have to much trouble with her.

all my friends/family used to live here my best friend was a few doors down but all have moved and my mums the only one left and her house is on the market.

our house is nice, small but neturally decorated and clean and modern.

all in all its ok,were lucky but its just not our scene, its mainly older mums/well off middle class familes who curtain twitch, its boring and its almost prison like with no car.

when my mums house sells we'll be moving to the next village, codsall, which has a trainstation its twice the size and theres loads to do.

What list is this on? I wanted to see where I live is on the list (we were worst city in the UK a couple of years ago haha!) but I can't find it :(

wow makes croydon seem like saintsville.

I love the location, I can see the North Yorkshire Moors from my house, we are 10mins drive from the sea, 10mins from a large town for shopping. 30mins drive to Whitby. There is a massive forest on my doorstep which have some fab walks.

Housewise, I like my house but quite fancy a bigger one.

I love the town i live in but not our house... Well maisonette! Were are currently trying to sell it in the hope of renting until we can buy a forever home. I can't wait!!

We live in a seaside town, i couldnt ask for a better place to bring up my kids. I just wish my family lived closer!
