Does anyone else think £600 - £800 is a bit steep for a pram?! ** update last page **

I think some of the prices are shocking, I really do. And I don't think the argument "what's better than spending your money on your baby?" actually holds any water, because you aren't spending money on the baby, you're just buying "stuff". How many people do you see on here who are on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th pram?!

Your baby needs something secure and comfortable, and you need something practical that can fit into your car (if you drive). That's all. The brand doesn't matter, the colour doesn't matter, the price tag doesn't matter.

Half of the people I know who have really expensive prams bought them for the same reason that they bought designer handbags, because they're showing off  It is just how some people live. Personally I find it really embarrassing to watch them.

You see the same on here, the ones who want the designer prams are the same ones who want the designer nappy bags  Complete waste of money IMO.

Sure, I can afford £1000+ for a pram, but do I think it is justified? Not a chance.

Same with spending more than £300 on a cot, what is the point? Or kitting out the nursery in baby sized furniture which will only last a couple of years before the hanging rails are too short. Why would you waste all that money?!

There are far more valuable ways to spend your money than overpriced baby kit, if you really want to invest in the child put the money into savings for it's education.

It is obviously a personal choice where you have to balance what you can afford to spend versus what you think the product is actually worth. If you have a fixed budget you decide where the money will be best spent, for me that means saving on the travel system so I can buy an Angelcare monitor.

I think it is one story of the pram is amazing quality and gets wonderful reviews, but quite another if it just looks nice and you want it because it is the most popular or because famous people have it!

I found that entire post VERY rude and judgemental.

Yep, I did too.

Some people can afford an £800 pram, and £4,000 of nursery furniture, and nice cars, houses, etc. Why should they be made to feel bad for their decision to spend their money on what they want? I know someone who has £11,000 disposible income a MONTH (lucky *******s ) what are they supposed to do? not spend it?

And yes, you are spending money on your baby. Just because someone buys an expensive pram, doesn't mean they are doing it to the detriment of other things, it generally means that they can afford it. Saying people just buy something because it's expensive is ridiculous. You only have to look at all the pram threads on here to realise that people look for quality, safety and practicality too.

Quality does also come at a price. look at the difference between Mamas and Papas, or John Lewis nursery furniture and Ikea. There IS a difference is quality, and as such a difference in price. That isn't to say any of the options are bad quality at all, just that some brands are better, more sturdy, longer life, etc. That's what I look for when purchasing any item. I go and see it, read reviwes online and spend a lot of time thinking it over. If that item is deemed expensive by some, then tbh it's no one's business but mine what I spend my money on.

I didn't spend a lot on things like furniture, but I wouldn't be jealous or begrudge someone who did (like a friend of mine). I'm on my third pram now, but I sold my others to pay for a new one, and I know most people do this

Honestly, it just sounds like some people are jealous in this thread. No, I can't afford a top of the range brand new pram right now, but I wouldn't say someone who bought one was 'ridiculous' 'frivilous' or 'showing off'. I think if you can afford it, then why not?

Can we even remind ourselves what this thread was actually about?!?!?!?!

Hi Ladies,

Well since ive got my BFP, i have been adding some items to my favourites and Ive been looking at prams lately. I have found one that I really like and I dont think its designer or anything but its what I like

https://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/...__80014_10001_

I noticed that some of the other ones are going right up to like £800 at Mamas & Papas, my immediate thought was that this is daylight robbery or is it that the norm, I dont know as this is my first baby. Some of the popular prams, seem to have a big price tag but are ugly as hell and I feel like how I do when I go into a mobile phone shop, big price tags but not neccessarily any better than one with a cheaper price tag.

Anyone else shocked by pram prices or am I in the minority? I didnt want to spend any more than £300 at a push on a pram and that still seems a lot. We still have to get the nursery all kitted out as well

p.s I posted this in second trimester my mistake :dohh:

EternalRose

So, EternalRose, yeah, I think it is daylight robbery. In my opinion.

You say that like we're not still talking about the price of prams

we're still talking about the price of prams? Or have I missed something....

Next time do yourself a favour, buy a £20 buggy and spend the rest on crack cocaine and sausage rolls :muaha:

  could get loads for that much too.

The price of prams? I think EternalRose was really meaning was do prams really justify the price. She wasnt asking WHO can afford what?!

Why on earth is everyone picking on each other?!?!?!

I'm out!

I think that it's all relative to your budget and requirements.

Having tested prams for Mother & Baby Magazine I can tell you that when you pay a high price tag for a pram it's usually the design expertise you pay for as much as the quality of the product. So yes a pram may have a big price tag but there is a reason. I've tested a full range of prams with price tags from under £200 to £900 and there is a world of difference between them as products and 8 times out of 10 the more they cost the better they do the job.

I think most people tend to buy what they can afford and try to get the best for their particular budget be that £50 or £1000. :)

So in response to the OP, no I dont think it's too much to spend....so long as your fridge isnt empty ;)

Hi hun, which pram would you reccomend xx

The price of prams?

Or what people can afford?

Why on earth is everyone picking on each other?!?!?!

I'm out!

No idea. It's people's own business what they spend their money on, so I've no idea why people started name calling in here about people who spend more money on prams than they would.

Lisa, did you test an iCandy.....before I buy one

Weighing up the iCandy Apple or Babystyle Oyster. Orrrrr maybe something else I haven't thought about yet

Well thats me put right off this forum. Again yet another thread that blew up into a online arguement.

Hi hun, which pram would you reccomend xx

That would depend on your budget.....which ties in nicely with the point I was trying to make ;) I tested a £195 pram that was incredible for the money and I was lucky enough to get to keep it but I could recommend you something midrange or £600+.....it's all relative ;)

I have tested the iCandy Apple Jogger ;) Will PM you as I'm not allowed to discuss it publicly :coolio:

Dont be daft. No one was arguing and I read the whole thing.

QUOTE] Ever heard of live within your means? If your on £10,000 a year then sure spending £600 on a buggy is a silly idea, but if your on £40,000 a year it wouldnt even make a dent.QUOTE]

i think this is right, im not on 40,000 a year but were ok to go out and buy a nice pram, to me the 400 i wont to spend is a number i want to stick too because this is wha we can afford and we wont struggle after spending it, personally going up to 800 just isnt a option for us, but i've just seen a quinny buzz for 445 lol so maybe not :dohh:
As long as your happy and your babies happy, and like someone else said not second hand car seat (cos of accidents etc) who really cares!!

ooo and dont forget us lucky ladies get 190 to buy nice things for our babies :happydance:

who's argueing? Can't people have a bit of a debate about opinions? No one is going to agree all the time. We're hardly slagging each other off and swearing. People will always disagree, it's the nature of a forum.
