Hi Peeps,
Sorry if this has been answered somewhere before, I am 23 weeks pregnant today! Whee! And on the 16th July i went into the jobcentre in my local town to start the ball on a Contributions Based Job Seekers Allowance claim as my contract finished and was not renewed! (I was self employed from October last year and therefore, I will be going onto Maternity Allowance as of the 13 September, I think that is 11 weeks before my due date - apparently, that is what needs to happen!)
I have been given all of the paperwork etc and have filled out all of the forms, got my first sign in tomorrow (as i was unavailable last week) and i was just wondering if anyone knew how long it takes for the payments to start? It's been 3 weeks on thursday!
Sorry, wow, that was a ramble!
Thank you for any advice in advance!

They won't release a payment until you sign. After that, as it's contribution based, it should only be a few days to a couple of weeks. I'd imagine by now your account is set up on the system, so all they need to do when you sign is enter the evidence that you've been in. Once that's done (if you're normally a wednesday signer) it should (I stress SHOULD) be Monday that you'll get your money through.

All this depends on whether they've got their arses in gear at top office and set up your details on the system - contribution based normally gets up and running quicker. You can ask the officer you sign with to check this and see if your account it 'LIVE' which means once they put in that evidence it should start issuing a payment (if you're a wednesday signer normally, you should be a monday payment receiver) and you'll receive any backpayment you're due too.

Sometimes other things can slow the process down, your account could be up but not in payment or something similar because they're waiting on evidence or something. All depends on little things like that. If all has gone well and goes well, you should receive payment next week.

I used to work as an Admin Officer (signing people) up until recently...

Thank You so much for your help! That is brilliant! When i go in tomorrow i will get the person i sign on with to have a little looky for me!!

Advice much appretiated!

Yes it can take a while! Mine took a fair few weeks before I got my first payment...mine started over Easter which can push payments back as you then lose a week of signing on and have to wait until next time blah blah blah.
