My boy has been eating 3 ounces since about four days old until recently. A couple days ago he still seemed hungry after giving him 3 oz so I upped it to 4 one time. He drank about 3 and a half ounces then I started giving him 3 again but have been giving him 4 oz off and on for about 3 days now. He has been drinking the whole 4 ounces now. Today I fed him 3 ounces at 11:40 and he got really fussy and cranky at about 2:00 so I went ahead and fed him because he was eating his hands and moving his head in that way like he was searching for food. He drank the whole 4 and has been fine ever since. He even managed to stay up for about an hour before I put him in his bouncer and he went to sleep.

Is it okay for him to be on 4 ounces?? They say they shouldn't have more than 32 ounces in a 24 hour period or whatever but aren't those also just guidelines? Because even at 4 ounces he seems to be wanting more every 3 hours. Could also be a growth spurt because just a few days ago I'd have to wake him after about 4 hours so he'd eat. Now he just seems like he's hungry a lot. Advice?? Does 4 ounces seem like too much for a 2 week old??

Nope, seems fine. I'm sure my LO was having between 3 and 4 oz around that age at least every three hours :)

Do not even worry about going over. It is a guideline and every baby is different. Feed baby when he is hungry, 4 oz seems about right

Yes like others have said do not worry about going over. Just feed LO when he is hungry. I think my LO was having that amount, it's fine. :flower:

Sounds like my lil man! He will spit it up if it is to much. Happy eatings to your LO

My ds looks like he'll be the same. He's 5 days and already taking 3oz bottles no problems. Paediatrician we saw about his jaundice yesterday was a little taken aback by it and said to try not to up to 4oz until about 2 weeks if we can.

But dd was the complete opposite, ended up in NICU for refusing to eat from any method on day 1 and never really ate well after that. The health visitors had me going insane that she wasn't drinking the recommended amounts. It took me about 5 months of mega stress before I realised dd just didn't want the much milk. And some days she would have loads, others not and that it was all perfectly fine.

Don't worry unless he's bringing a lot of it up as well. Just sounds like you have a hungry boy.
