Hi Ladies-

I was just wondering what you were doing when it comes to casual drinking? Are you giving it up altogether while you are TTC or only in the post ovulation portion of your cycle? My DH and I just recently this month started trying and I was just wondering what your thoughts on this were.

FYI: I am not by any means an alcoholic but I do enjoy a beer or 2 on the weekend. :winkwink:

When I get AF I usually drink then. I have had the occasional drink at different times during my cycle in other months but I'm not pg so I don't know if that affected it  So this time around I haven't had any. And I love my beer so that's probably the weirdest thing for me during TTC. I don't drink everyday but it's the summer now and friend's want to go to a patio for drinks and it's like I'm dodging them. :haha: I haven't told people we're TTC so it makes it difficult. This is just me though, I don't know what's worked for others :) Lots of ladies have drinks and have no problems.

Hi :)

Well I guess everyone feels different about this but personally I have a few drinks during Af as I no I'm not hurting a potential little bean, and I feel I need a drink after the stress of bfns lol.

I haven't had a drink in over a month this time though!
X

I haven't had a drink since we started TCC last month. I had an AWFUL day at work today, had a glass of wine and feel sooooooo much better :) I'm CD10 I won't drink in the TWW though or obviously when I'm pregs xxxx

I don't drink very often generally, but I am having a few beers on the odd occasion like on Saturday our friend from Winchester is coming to stay and we're going for dinner so I'll have a glass of wine and a few beers then. I'm on AF at the moment anyway, should be finished by tomorrow, but I feel a few drinks won't hurt at the moment. After I have OV'd I might stop just in case.

I don't drink very much at all but as it stands I'm carrying on as normal, went to my oh's cousins wedding last week and got drunk and it's my cousins 18th party on Saturday so no doubt I'll be drinking then. I don't want anyone to know we are Ttc and if I'm not drinking they will probably jump to conclusions and think I'm pregnant anyway. I'm taking the relaxed approach to it all, carrying on as normal pretty much except I have given up smoking which I wanted to do anyway. But yeah I don't really see a problem with drinking while ttc as long as it's not all day everyday kind of thing. I usually only drink once a month if that but this month has been eventful.

From the latest I've seen on research into alcohol consumption while PG, they're beginning to think that a drink every now and then while pregnant might actually not be as bad as once thought. In fact, the most recent studies show that children born to mothers who occasionally had a drink while pregnant were less likely to developed behavioral problems like ADHD. (Of course drinking more than 2-3 drinks a week is, even by new study standards, still a no-no.)

March of Dimes and other organizations are not supporting the research yet, probably because it is so new and such a VERY taboo idea to even THINK of supporting, but the research does make sense.

That being said, I still don't know if I'd drink all through a pregnancy, but I did have a glass of champagne for OH and my anniversary during the 2WW, and another 2 glasses at a wedding the weekend before. (Also during the 2WW.)

Now that AF has come and gone, I'm back to my glass of wine or bottle of beer every couple days.

If after 9 months we're still TTC, I may put the booze aside, but for now I think the stress relieving properties of the occasional drink are far more helpful towards getting PG than hurtful.

i had a glass today and i'm in tww lol it's just your preference, i felt guilty about it because a few days before i had a little glass of wine too but then again i definately would not be gulping down hard liquor by any means i heard women do have glasses of wine during pregnancy but if i knew i was pregnant i would drink as for right now i have th occasional one unless i find out with that bfp that i gotta stop

I'll have an occasional drink in the time b/w AF and when I O, but after I think I've O'ed during the 2ww I don't just in case a pregnancy has begun. Maybe I shouldn't be at all. I don't know if it is affecting my fertile time prior to O. It is hard to be in social situations when you don't want to explain to everyone why you don't want a drink...

so glad you posted something about this. I have been a little cautious myself. I am trying not to drink as much as possible (I only usually indulge once a week at dinner with the family), but happy someone else is posting about TTC alcohol rules. I obviously won't drink anything once I become prego. :)

I think the occasional glass is okay. It helps us relax and ease out stress. Nothing beats a rough day at work or stress of that BFN than a bubble bath and a glass of wine!

Hi all!!!

Well, I too am partial to a beer or two, especially on those lovely long summer days, should they ever arrive.

I am a life long weight watcher member lol and with close to 5 stone off, I am always looking for something to allow me to indulge, without gaining too much weight.

So, taking that into consideration, as well as my health and trying to get my body baby ready, I decided to dip my toe into the Non Alcoholic Beer pool.

I thought I was going to be revolted by it, but there is a brand called Bavaria, it is 0/0% alcohol and I honestly love it. It tastes just like beer and is actually good for those long summer days, as you can have a few of those and last a bit longer than if you were drinking alcohol all day.

Maybe not everyones cup of tea, but even if you replace two real beers for two of those, and then have more real beers, surely it is better to have just that little bit less alcohol!

Thanks everyone for your responses. I am with everyone else that I don't want people to ask me a bunch of questions as to why I am not drinking. I guess I will just see how it goes!

Personly I don't think it's that bad to have a drink when you know you aren't pregnant. I always drink on my period because I know that is a "safe" time. TTC is stressful and BFN are also stressful! A little drinking is okay by my book! Because there will be 9 months we can't drink!

I have been ttc for over a year and I rarely drank, i'm not a big drinker anyways. I was always so cautious not to drink after ovulation and rarely at all. Well it didn't help at all!! So this month, i'm throwing all that out the window. It hasn't helped me at all and at the very least it will help me relax and hopefully feel like i'm not trying so hard. It summer time and i'm going to enjoy all the fun activities that alcohol is usually involved in. IF i get the BFP, I will definitely stop. I think i drank once during AF this month, I am currently in the TWW and going on vacation in a few days and I'm definitely going to be having a margarita on the beach!

At first I was beyond good. Even cut my coffee...which i should have anyways because I just go crazy for coffee, but I only have one a day...a med Dunkin Donuts. I also pretty much didnt drink at all, but after all these months, still not preg, so I said the heck with it. All these people get drunk and get preg at the drop of a hat, so why should I stop everything? Dont get me wrong...i am by no means a drunk, but when I go out to dinner or a wedding/shower/event I do enjoy a couple drinks. I am trying to be as normal as possible. During my TWW...hopefully next week, I have a baby shower next weekend and I do plan on having a glass of wine, just one. I feel like if you totally stop everything you normally do, its even more frustrating and stressful TTC.
I did read in a few places a glass of wine during preg every now and then is ok and even good for the heart? I have decided that I will have maybe a half a glass here and there while preg....thats if I have the craving for it.
We change a lot TTC...so I feel like im going to try to be normal, because when im home, between peeing on sticks and taking my temp daily, I feel like a weirdo.

Interesting thread ladies!
Up til now i have avoided drinking during 2ww only but have had only bfn so im thinking this month im going to try avoiding alcohol completely and see what happens = D

I was really concerned about this too and wasn't having any alcohol during the TWW just in case. A few weeks ago, I actually went to my doctor to ask her about this and a couple other things too (ie sushi, if swimming could hurt our changes, that kind of thing..). She feels that a glass of wine won't harm a baby in the time before you'd get a positive pregnancy test. So this month I'm allowing myself the odd drink if I feel like it. But it's definitely one of those things where you need to do what you think is right!

I will be drinking as normal (which isn't much) but dont want people to know we are ttc. I know a woman who has been ttc for 8 months and tells everyone she is ttc and won't drink a sip! She is putting too much pressure on herself about it! If she had a little drink to relax it might just happen! I don't want to tempt fate by quitting things now that I will stop whilst pregnant! I'd rather be relaxed about it until that bfp!!! X
