Drinking?

Hi - I like a few of you just quit totally during the 2WW and generally speaking I've only had a couple during the other times, but last night - I was 10dpo and had a BFN yesterday morning, have had no symptoms and just felt like poo - I had a couple of glasses - feel rather guilty about it now - by no means drunk - i've woken up fresh as a daisy this morning, but still feel a wee bit guilty! but as its been said before - so many carry on and are pregnant and not realise it! like you all said hopefully (soon, please god soon) there'll be nine months of no alcohol!!

Hi ladies. I am currently in my tww and yes I had a small glass of wine last night.

At the end of the day you could be waiting months for bfp and you can't put your life on hold plus a occaisional glass before you get bfp won't do any harm.

I used to drink regularly but I have almost cut it out. I won't have glass wine with dh in the evening and deliberately not arranging big nights out.

I am v worried about people guessing before I know things are ok. I am not supersticious about waiting till 12 week, I just want to see heartbeat before we tell people, so when we get bfp we will be arranging early private scan. There is no point me trying to hide it till 12 weeks as the minute freinds and family realise I have stopped drinking they will know.

So pleased to find this thread - I too am in my TWW and had a few shandies last night. I'm the only one of my circle of friends that is still childless (only my first month TTC, mind) and all of them tell me not to worry about drinking a little when TTC. They all have a story to tell about the horrors of remembering a boozy night or two that occured just before they found out they were pregnant, but all of them have healthy, gorgeous children :baby:

I'm by no means a big drinker, and my husband is teetotal, but I know that if I'm TTC for a long while before I get my BFP, I'll go banana's without the odd cheeky beverage :winkwink:

When I first started ttc, I gave up booze and ciggys, I still don't smoke, but after a year of disappointment I started having the occasionally glass of wine/beer.

I honestly think that it's stress over ttc rather than alcohol that is deterring us from our BFPs. I used to worry lots before, and now I only worry occasionally - only because I have very long irregular cycles and don't know when my "red zone" is...but basically for at least 30 days I don't worry too much because I know that I don't O till close to cd 40...and then I try not to stress too much (I'm not a big drinker anyways - maybe a glass of red once a week or less)...ttc can be such a bummer - why deprive yourself of everything? I'm so not cutting out caffeine though! No way haha :D

Once you are pregnant, there are so many things that you are supposed to avoid (certain cheese, cold cuts, large fish, alcohol, etc) that it seems so silly to deny yourself these things even while you are TTC. I think the negative effects of alcohol come from it being in your bloodstream while the fetus is developing its organs. I'm not sure it has any effect on miscarriage or conceiving (unless you are an alcoholic in which case there are probably vitamin deficiencies and liver problems and such)...

Anyway I love red wine and I can't justify denying myself a glass here or there, especially now with summer and all the weddings and get togethers with friends.

@RJ84: I saw you posted a few days ago about having a drink after getting a BFN but I see that your signature says you're pregnant now! If so, congrats! And see... alcohol had/has nothing to do with it! :happydance:

Btw, anybody unable to stay away from caffeine either?

Hey all!

I don't drink very much so, thus far have been quite happy experimenting with fun soft drinks - my current favourite is elderflower and apple cordial with tonic water and a slice of lime. But my big issue is how much OH should drink. He does love his beer - and the stuff that he drinks is traditional ale and pretty strong (sometimes over 3 units a bottle).

Are any of you laying down the law for hubby / significant other?

Ive heard a glass of red wine even during preg is actually good for you cus of the antioxidants (?sp) and as a server i know it takes your body about an hr to process one drink so i would say a glass of wine or a beer or two wont hurt you when ttc. I would stay away from hard liquor tho. And straight ladies pls tell your men this does not mean he can drink whatever whenever. Drinking actually effects his sperm count and mobility. IF anyone shouldnt drink its them. :) baby dust ti all.

Ps i still have a drink every now and again. Ill stop when i see that :bfp: im waiting for.

Chiclet I've not managed to give up caffeine, have cut down though. You?

I don't drink much anymore anyway. I have wine on a Friday night, that's it really. Before TTC I used to have a bottle every Friday night but I only have half now. When I'm pregnant I'll obviously stop but until then I don't think I drink enough to cause too much harm. I worry more about my caffeine intake. x

i drink once i know ive started my peroid and if i fancy 1 for a few weeks after i will, but i hardly drink anyway.

and appartently a baby doesnt share your blood until 2 weeks but i would risk it.

I haven't managed to cut down at all! My job requires shiftwork, some of them overnight and they can be really tough without caffeine (especially since I have to drive home afterwards in traffic).

They say 200mg a day is not too bad but I have no idea how much is in the 16oz mug that I brew most days. :coffee:
