early scan, gest sac only then hcg test

Did anyone ever have an early scan at 5 weeks 2 days and see a gestational sac but nothing else and consequently the doctor orders hcg tests 'just to rule out' ectopic? My doctor said that it had a 'donut' shape to it which can be a feature of ectopics but it could also be normal. I'm waiting for my hcg result today and so nervous. He expects to see the yolk sac next week at another scan but did anyone have to have hcg tests at this stage too? Thanks!

Well, with my last child I had an ultrasound done to confirm dates and it was just a sac and nothing else...They didn't do HCG levels they just sent me home and told me to repeat ultrasound in 4 weeks, so I did and there was the baby as healthy as all....My doctors are pretty good tho some doctors will worry you for no reason...Hope everything turns out fine for you and baby!!!

not all ectopic pregnancies are in the fallopian tube...but I do get what you are saying...If this sac in your uterus because if it is then it can't be an ectopic!!!

You can have something called a 'pseudosac' which is a fake sac sometimes created by hormones if the pregnancy is elsewhere. Maybe he is just being extra cautious as he's not going to rescan me until 6+weeks ?? I don't know, I just think it's a bad sign that he has to get my hcg results too.

I think if the Hcg is very high then he would be concerned that he only sees a sac and there is something else that he is missing. If the hcg is low then it may confirm that you are indeed very early.

Maybe he wants to take it so that he can follow your hcg levels?

I had that with my last pregnancy! I was 5weeks 2days I had to come back 2weeks later and a little bean was there
