Hi all

So am pregnant for the first time and am very impatient to find out that all is ok. I've been looking around at going for a private easrly scan. I'm 5 weeks today but was thinking about hanging on for another week and a bit.

From various posts I've been reading it seems that early scans can be a bit hit and miss. What do people think - is it worth it or should I just be patient and wait for the 12 week one with MW on the NHS?

I had a early scan at 6+6. This is my first pregnancy but i was soooo worried due to reading things on google and people i know having misscarriages/stillborn.

Anyway! I would say go for it myself. Its such a relief to know everythings ok and if I ever got pregnant again i would have a early scan but i would wait until i was around 8 weeks to see more.

Its entirely upto you but i would go for it. Mine was 55 pounds well spent simply for the peace of mind! x

If you can wait a few weeks do. I had one today and was put back a week and no hb so I'm going to worry now till I go back again. Hold on till 8 weeks it's worth waiting to see it jump around. I had one with my son too and at 7 weeks saw a hb. Worth doing but try to wait a few weeks save the worry I'm going through. Xxx

I was a bit jealous of the people who were having early scans - and I have to wait for an NHS scan at 13 +1...

That said a lady posted on here - saying she had gone for an early scan seen a heartbeat and felt much better then went on to lose the baby...

I guess it made me feel a bit better about the whole thing.. waiting might seem like forever BUT by 13 weeks the chance of baby hanging in there is high... so wait I shall

It is personal choice- something that heartened me - was that if you make it to 8 weeks its a 93% chance your pg will go to term - and by 12 weeks it 95%!.. So once you get to 8 your on to pretty good odds :)

That said I didint think you could see a baby till around 10 weeks.

HTH and happy and healthy 9 months x

I had an early scan on thursday, but only due to the fact ive had a loss before x

Im having an early scan because me and my dr are not totally sure how far along i am...otherwise i would have to wait till 12 weeks

But i know how you feel this is my first and just wanna get to 12 weeks and have a scan!! :)

I had a scan when i was "6w 5d" and it was horrible.. the doctor told me my fetus looked like 4 weeks and i had a blood test.. ( my hcg levels dropped by 100)
Then i had to come the 4 days, since first scan, to scan in the radiolody department and there was bean with a little heart beat. Basically i wasted a bunch of money and time stressing because it was too early.. and i'm a week late according to lmp

It's better to wait until there is a problem, you can save yourself a lot of stress
This is purely my opinion though ^^

I had one, 8 weeks, you cant see much except for a heartbeat and a bit of a blob. I was reassured, but its a personal choice.

I'm wondering myself this is my third & i didn't have a scan till 16 wks with them but i really want an early one with this one?
But i'm in limbo? DH thinks it's a waste of money but in a annoying man kind of way, not really giving any thought to how i may be feeling?
My main reason is i know i'm not going to be able to hide it till 12 wks & wanted a scan b4 we told people x

I would wait until you're about 7/8 wks as may not be able to see embryo this early and it'll only make you panic

I cancelled one this pregnancy. It can be reassuring but I just felt I'd carry on worrying up until 12 weeks anyway. If somwthings going to go wrong an early scan won't stop it. It's a personal decision and I know some ladies do find they really help set their minds at ease x

Totally agree with this but more like 8 weeks. I was put back over a week today and now I'm panicking as there was no heartbeat. She said everything else looked good and not to worry as it can happen quite often but of course I still feel like I've lost the baby already. I still go again early if I have another baby as I like to know but I'll be going at 8 weeks next time.
