Did anybody ever try Econobums? They've just launched limited edition ones with zinnia, moonbeam or ribbit coloured trim (https://www.thenaturalbabyresource.co.uk/cloth-nappies/Econobum). I really like the look of them and I wanted to get some for at my mum's but I'm not sure whether to get just the wraps and use either disposable inserts (which I have loads of) or take Flip inserts with us when we visit, or to get the prefolds they come with for £2 more. Anybody have any views?

Hi rachel, was wondering this too! I remember someone buying them when they first came out along with flips (maybe Kirsten?) but just seen they are on offer again x

Yeah I'm very tempted to get some! Wonder if anywhere else will be selling them?

I want some! They're so pretty! Cant remember if anyone did buy them originally...hmm, I'm gonna ask!

Rachel - could you post the link please where these are on offer?

Thanks x

It's the one on the first post, I think they have £1 off the full price, so not a huge discount but they are a lot cheaper than Flips :)

Rachel - did you buy them in the end? I really want to know what the inserts look like but havent seen any, anywhere.

xx

I ordered one of each colour. They were apparently dispatched on Monday so I'm hoping they'll arrive today. When they do arrive, I'll take some photos and then post a review when we've tried them.

From what I've read, I think the inserts are a cotton prefold, like the organic Flip insert but not organic, well that's what I'm assuming anyway!

i have an econobum, the insert is an unbleached prefold - so it's a beigey colour if that makes sense.

i havent used it yet though

Sounds like what I was expecting. Evil postman is hiding my parcels I think :(

Yay, the econobums arrived today! The cotton for the inserts isn't as soft as the organic cotton Flip insert and it feels thinner. It's a slightly more 'natural' colour than the creamier Flip inserts. I will definitely be using a fleece liner over them, but for the money I think they're nice.

Here are some photos next to a Flip so you can see what they're like.

Inside and outside:

I knew they wouldn't have the two rows of snaps to fasten but was pleased to see that there are still two snaps on each side, just next to each other instead.

The inserts:

As you can see, the Econobum inserts are about the same width but significantly longer than the Flip organic cotton inserts. Mine hasn't yet been prewashed though so maybe it will shrink on the length?

This is when they're folded for the large setting.

This is when they're folded in three for the small setting.

This is them on the small setting again - the Econobum is folded into four instead of three as it was a lot wider when folded in four.

Thanks Rachel!!! I might get a couple as they're so cheap. Let us know how you find them for leaks etc :) x

i've pre-washed mine now and the inserts are pretty much the same size.

After one prewash on 60, a couple of rinses, then a 40 degree wash and extra rinse after they were used, the inserts have shrunk a bit but they're still bigger than the organic Flip inserts.

I found them really good for absorbancy. I used them with a fleece liner and they were fine for at least three hours. They would have gone longer but I didn't want to risk it with them not having been washed much yet. The fit was good - a little bit harder to put on than a Flip as the tabs aren't as stretchy so I got it wrong first time and had to redo it, but that's just user error! The only thing I don't like is that there the backs of the poppers do touch LO's skin on the inside as there is no flap to hold the insert in place that covers them like on the Flips. I'll probably just use some hourglass fleece liners to cover them.

Overall I really like them... I was sad to leave them at my mum's but that's what I bought them for so they had to stay :(

I have econobums also and they even work overnight for me! Emma isn't a heavy wetter at night so they work perfectly. I agree they are harder to use compared to Flips but just a bit harder. I also love how fast they dry! :D

hmmm are the inserts the same meterial as the Organic Flip inserts?

No. The Flip inserts are organic cotton and the Econobums are just normal cotton I think. The Flip ones feel smoother and they're a creamier/lighter colour (bleached more?) but it doesn't make any difference to me as I always cover non-stay-dry inserts with fleece liners anyway.
