Hi Dawn

I would look at thewebsites of the clincs near you most are quite informative. Here is the info for my clinic:

In return for donating your eggs, you will receive a cycle of private IVF treatment at Manchester Fertility Services at a subsidised rate of £850.00

HTH helps you might find someone of here who has actually done it. Also attendng an open evening at a clinic might help. Good Luck.

Hi Hun

I looked into this and there are a few things you should know..

1. You need to have an FSH level under 8.
2. They will cover you for a straight forward cycle of IVF - if you need ICSI its about another £1500 on top - and poss more with the surgical stuff you need. PLUS if you need more than the normal level of drugs - such as if you need to stimm more - you will have to pay for those on top and they arent cheap.
You also need to pay for the intial consultation which is about £350.
3. You have to have quite alot of tests done before they accept you - to check genetics etc. The total costs of these comes to around £650 - £1000 depending on what you can get the NHS to do first - and you have to pay these and potentially still wont be accepted in results arent good.
4. Once accepted and cycling - You ned to get a minimum of 8 eggs - at least 4 for you and 4 for your recipient. IF you dont get 8 basically they either cancel the cycle and the eggs are left to perish OR you can pay to upgrade to a personal cycle and keep all the eggs for yourself and carry on. Which is prob. gonna cost you upwards of £6,500. WHICH was the killer for me - it would be heartbreaking to have to deal with that decision.

CLinics tend to have open evenings so its definitely worth going along to one to get all the facts.
For me - I had an FSH level of over 8 so I want eligible - they only told me this after I had given them £350 for the consultation though and I left there crying!

I really feel that egg sharing is perfect for couples that are given one go on the NHS but that cycle fails - becasue if they know that they can produce 8 eggs - they can therefore use egg sharing to get subsequent goes at a reduced cost - safe in the knowledge that they arent going to have to face the horrible decision of cancelling a cycle. For first timers - they really need to be aware of the risk of cancelling the cycle - even after spending over £1,000 on consultation fees, drugs and tests. In none of my IVF's did I manage 8 eggs - so egg sharing definitely wouldn't have been for me.

However - having said all that - if you cant afford to pay for IVF yourself hun and this is the only way - then its worth a shot - even if it ends in disappointment I would fully understand why you would give it a go.

Wish you all the luck in the world with whatever you decide.

thanks for the replies, we cant get ivf on nhs as i have 2 children from a previous relationship. we could probably afford 1 treatment privatley but it will cost upwards of about £8500 as we need the icsi and extra surgical prcedures to remove dh sperm and if it doesnt work the first time then we wouldnt be able to try again for a long time. i was a bit worried as both my parents died before i turned 20 (i'm 27 now) and i wasnt sure if this would affect the egg sharing acceptance, they say any hereditary diseases and you wont be accepted. my father died from a heart attack and my mother bladder cancer. neither are hereditary but as soon as i mention it to life insurance companies etc they freak out. i'll try and find out a bit more when i see the specialist. we are going to try and get as much tests etc on the nhs.x

p.s my dh is 37 and wants to be a dad soon as he thinks he's getting old.lol.x

I know quite a bit about egg share as we looked at it as a possible option for us. Feel free to pm me if you want.

Basically every clinic is different and different policies. I spoke to several and the costs varied and although all said you have to procude 8 eggs, one said if you didn't they'd let you carry on free of charge but you couldn't do egg share again and another said they'd make you give those eggs to the recipient and then you could do another cycle again on egg share cost and then these would be yours. I chose the clinic that would let me keep my eggs first time if I didn't produce enough.

That said we decided not to do it in the end. I thought I would be stimulated for longer to produce more but this is not the case as it would make you unwell so really you are halfing your eggs. They are divided like one for you one for me type thing (they don't look at quality) so in theory you could give away the best eggs without knowing it.

The chance of freezing any is more remote as you may not have enough or of a good enough quality.

the main reason we decided not to is because this would be our first child and we would like to freeze some and then hopefully have a second child from the frozen embies. This means not going through the nasty procedure again (hopefully if there's enough to freeze) and then popping one in during an normal cycle which only costs £840. So having totalled up all the costings the cost difference for us was £2k but that meant we wouldn't have to do the drugs, procedure or anything if we want to use frozen embies and for 2k we thought that was worth it for any future babies!

It's def worth a shot if this is the only way you can afford it :)

It looks like i am heading down the eggshare tracks!!

Only due to my PCT not funding IVF at presant and we cant afford private AT ALL! We have no kids at all and been ttc for 2 years.. OH has low sperm count!

I have sent all my forms off and waiting for consultation appointment!!
I think the costs for my clinic all in is around £1900 this does not include any freezing of eggs this would be extra cost.. This does include blood tests, drugs and ICIS (we might no need ICIS yet) but i am guessing we might so i added that on. It may be lower if we do not need the ICIS..

You need to produce 8 eggs in order to share, if you dont and you decide to keep your egg then you normally can continue the cycle with no extra fees (depending on the clinic) but will not be able to eggshare at the same clinic again!!

I have no idea how i respond to treatment never done it before but at same time, can not go on waiting and waiting for my PCT to fund my cycle think we waited long enough.. My partner is also 38 and does not want to wait much longer as do i..

xx

it is well worth checking with your fertility centre for their rules as they vary greatly. At mine for example - if you agree to share then whether or not you produce enough eggs, you pay the reduced amount. If you produce 8 (I think) or more you split them 50/50 with someone else, if it is an odd number you get the extra one, and if you don't produce enough they are all yours and you still only pay the reduced amount :D

thanks so much for your replies. we are now waiting to see a specialist to see what he recommends as we need the icsi and surgical removal of sperm it will cost quite a bit. we have been reffered to the specialist as hopefully he can recommend the best clinics and route for us. i have looked quite into the egg share and am starting to ave doubts. we could fork out all this money for the tests and consultations but in the end get refused. i'm thinking it may be better just to use that money and just go for it without egg share. but my fertilty doc said that maybe they can do the tests free for us on the nhs. we will have to wait for the specialists opinion. fingers crossed!!!

:hi:there.
Me & OH have been ttc for almost 2 years now,he also has a low sperm count.
Ive been thinking about egg sharing for a while now but all the clinics offering it were in England & we live in Scotland. At the weekend i finally found one in Glasgow,so yesterday i phoned them & we have our 1st appointment for tests on 29th April:happydance:,that will cost us £220. I asked if my GP could do the tests but the clinic prefers to do them themselves. Then we have another appointment on 11th May costing £160,but as i'm getting the results by post if they're bad we won't bother with the 2nd appointment:cry:.
As for the actual egg sharing we only pay £950, the recipients pay for my drugs. If i only produce 6 eggs they'll go to the recipient but i'll get a free cycle of IVF only paying for my drugs:happydance:.
I really hope i fit the criteria. I'm 31 & have 3 children from a previous relationship. I'd also love to help another couple have a much longed for baby & this way it could work for both of us:thumbup:
All clinics are different so it pays to look around.
