Hi - just wrote this and its turned out to be a rly long post, I do get to the point I promise :)

Ive just been looking into egg sharing and wanted to ask your advice as to what you thought about it. Morally Im fine with it, would quite like the fact that I helped someone out and it wouldnt be my kid, if they contacted me at 18 I suppose I would behave like an aunt or something similar.

Im not quite there yet with IVF, Ive just done two cycles of 100mg Clomid which didnt seem to get me to OV, this ones looking positive but I wont hold my breath tbh.

My next option is injectables and theyre so expensive. They say that it takes a normal couple up to 12 months to conceive - I know that youre more likely to produce multiple eggs with fertility treatment, but potentially Ill have to do 12 months of injectables? No thanks.

So I figured I would do one or two cycles with injectables then go straight to IVF. We dont have any SA issues so Im not convinced the IUI will be much good for me, my issue is plain that I dont ovulate and I think that once we get that sorted Ill be fine, just down to statistics after then.

My point is (I am getting there) I have just today heard about egg sharing for IVF and I rly like the idea of it. I love the idea that I'd be helping a couple in need, I thought my husband would be weird about it but he said 'sounds great, why doesnt everyone do it'.

I have read about the criteria for donation and Im not sure if I qualify - I dont want to go through screening if its blatantly obvious that I would fail, so wondered if you could help.

The issue is that Im not sure what counts as a serious inheritable disease. I am suspected diabetic - blood sugar was 7.1 once, 7 is the cutoff, all tests after that were fine. I apparently PCOS but no cysts on ovaries. The main this is that I was off work with depression for two years in 2008. Im not sure if this is a genetic thing as tbh there was a lot of situational stuff going on.

Would this exclude me? Im under 35, BMI WILL be under 30 by the time I need treatment. I wouldnt want to pass on any duff eggs but not sure if this sort of thing is considered genetic.

My closest clinic is probably Exeter so anyone with experiences there as well, chip in!

Hi cranberry,

I have no experience with this but just thought id say that I also like the idea of egg sharing, not come across many who do.

Sorry couldn't be more help x

I called the clinic egg sharing person and left a long rambling message, seems that today is a rambly day!

I have eggshared myself, it is defo worth a call with your clinic your thinking of going with, some have different critea they require. I used Care clinic whom have critea to meet but the consultation were free so we went along and found loads of information before deciding to go ahead with the cycle.

Are issues are my having pcos and my partner having sperm issues, eggsharing is not for everyone but with myself i found it such a "less selfish" thing to do, helping another couple towards there dream of having a family.

There be loads of information they can send you too so you can read all about it before making an appointment with them. They normally have a list to fill out which details alot of question of history medical wise with yourself, parter and family history.

They run a lot of blood tests aas well to ensure u dont carry any certain genetic diseases. Again the clinic will list for you everything there checking your blood for. These have to be come all clear to be accepted, these are things like sickle cell, cystic fibrosis, and kryotype tests, these take a good few weeks for results.

Then your need to meet critea on age, weight, health, and then your be matched all the process with myself took around 8 weeks from first appointment to results and getting matched, which isnt long at all..

As far as injections go like u mentioned are you getting these paid for by nhs? I dont think they would give anyone 12 months of injections i think they normally only advise so many goes before seeking further fertility help..

I think most FS offer a few IUI goes or injections before seeking ivf help. It will not be 12 months worth as that is a lot of injections for anyone. Normally 3 cycles of each maybe they might offer or of one or the other, never 12 months, well not in the UK i dont think anyway that is a lot of pumping your insides for a long time with.

I would defo suggest like u have keeping any open mind on eggshare and reading all the info the clinic provide, we wouldnt be where we are now without me eggsharing, are nhs wasnt funding treatment and it would of taken a long time for us to save £5,000 would of done it but then i feel myself eggsharing benefits myself and the other couple..

Good luck hun xx

Im paying privately and yeah I know they wouldnt do it for 12 months, but all i can think is that even if I OV, statistically Im not that likely to get preg even if everything else is ok. I dont rly want to go through that much IUI as once we've paid for say three cycles of IUI, I could have just had IVF. My BMI is too high for NHS treatment and tbh from all the nightmares Ive heard about the waiting lists and waits for 3 months just for a 10 min talk with a FS Id rather just go private either way.

Thanks for the advise about it all tho, Im working on getting my weight down atm and any IVF etc would probably happen late this year. Nice to know that we have an option which we're actually happy with taking finally :)

Yeh i dont rate the nhs personally as we got no where with them.
Maybe like u say do the injections for few months and then maybe the eggsharing.

We couldnt do iui as DP sperm so low that ivf was only option plus the success rates are miles better than iui and when you are paying thats the main thing isnt it the better success rate.

We said we would do 2 goes of eggshare if needed and as you can see i am nearly due with my first little princess on board.
It good to get all the facts together tho i did this a good few months before making all appointments i just wanted to know wot to expect etc

Heard back from one of the clinics- London Womens Clinic, they have a clinic in Cardiff too which wouldnt be too bad for us to get to.

They said ofc Ill need a full assessment but depression is not something which routinely rules you out. So looking positive! Going to make a massive effort to lose this extra weight by September and maybe go to an info day in August or something.

Feeling v positive about it all, even considering giving Clomid another shot next month - was a nightmare last month, but I reckon I can get through it while Im feeling this good :)

Hi!

Just thought I'd update you. We gave done alot of reading recently around egg sharing and decided we are going to go ahead and do it!!

I'm quite excited x

OOh that IS exciting :) Rly hope it works out well, have you got a journal? Will stalk you if so to find out what its like
