just a few things i learned reading some hard science

the yolk sac... the shape, size of it etc. if abnormal can give doctors early info about how the pregnancy will go. if it is not visible at 5 weeks that's usually not a good sign.

i was doing research to find out if the yolk sac location determines the placenta location. anyone know? i don't believe so, I think the yolk sac changes so much over a period of weeks that it can be located anywhere.... that's what i saw in videos and in one diagram i saw that the placenta was forming totally opposite of the yolk sac.... so while one replaces the function of the other, i don't think they are in the same location.

anyway, the embryology site was a hard read but based on pictures and videos about formation, I think it's safe to say that until the placenta is developed one can't know where it will be.

I think you are right there...I could not quite figure it out....and read conflicting information about what happens to the yolk sac...somewhere I read it integrates into the babies gut....other place I read can be seen on the placenta after the birth as a small piece of tissue.....confusing....

When I saw bubs the other day at 8 wks 4 days, there was still a yolk sac left, which doc said was fine..because that's working until the placenta takes over this week. The placenta was on one side, and the yolk sac and baby were on the other.

I find it all pretty confusing too lol.

haha :) yea, because one ends up doing the work for the other there's a misconception that the yolk sac literally grows into the placenta... but definitely not true. confusing for sure. i'm not sure why we can't learn more about this on basic pregnancy sites. instead i'm always directed to really difficult studies to make sense of.

anyhow, thanks for being interested with me. i'm going to give up for a while on trying to learn more about how to find out RIGHT NOW what the gender of my baby is. It won't be much longer till the doc can find the placenta and I have a lot of faith in that method after seeing statistics both online and right here with babyandbump ladies.

thanks for reading and keeping up with me on this research.

What does placenta placement have to do with gender? I'm interested too! Looks like my placenta is to the right of bubs.

the ramzi method states that on a study of 5000 women it was 97 percent accurate that if the placenta was on the left side of the baby... girl..... if right side of babe, boy.

this gets confusing as scan pictures are mirrored unless it was a vaginal scan... so make sure to ask your doctor... if the placenta is on your right or left. if you're looking at a scan and the placenta is to the right of bubs (if it was an abdominal scan) then it's actually reversed so left...and girl!

Its something to do with the ramzi method, there should be a post on it on this page or the next .......

This just confuses me though, as the study says they can tell by where the placenta is postioned at 6 weeks as to if it will be a boy or girl ........ but the placenta isnt there at 6 weeks, and if the yolk sack doesnt form into a placenta then how can they tell lol!

also someone did a sort of survey over in second trimester and it most women who already know the sex of the baby as well as where their placenta is located said it was true for them!

have you got a link for that survey? would like to read...

How do you know where your placenta is located? I am looking at my scan picture and the baby is lying down, profile, facing the left. But, how do I know where or what my placenta is in the picture?

have you got a link for that survey? would like to read...

just found it! https://www.babyandbump.com/pregnan...o-you-know-your-placenta-position-gender.html

hard to explain. look up placenta scan in google images so you can see what it looks like in a scan. a lot of people say the baby kinda rests on it like a pillow...but i've seen some pictures where the baby wasn't so close to it and it looks like a frisbee kinda. haha.

oh thanks! i was just looking for it but you got it first...took me forever to find it.

Well now all the talk about left or right..I can't really tell which side its on..it was above bubs tho. Argh lol.

well was it directly above bubs?? or to one side even a little more? and what kind of scan did you have...abdominal or vaginal?

are you looking at a scan picture? let me know if you are and what kind it is and what location you think the placenta is in and i can try to help you decode.

i get to see my little one in the first scan on tuesday. i will definitely be back to this thread to see about guessing gender!!! how exciting!

oooh that's hard, but not uncommon. but most of the time the placenta (again google image it) is more on the side of the uterus. hmmm... maybe a next scan it'll be more obvious. that's a bummer!

i figured it out by reading. you must be holding it horizontally.... if you rotate it, the placenta will be on the right or left.... however, i still think hard to say with just the scan... i think for best results it's best to act the dr while he has it on your belly.
