Emergency kit for the mother of a newborn

I dont think its creepy, she may not even think to use as a bra but it could also be used to hide her tummy if she is NIP. Lots of women use them for that reason as well x

Definitely not creepy! This is such a sweet idea. I definitely agree with chocolate--even just as something for her to have easily at hand to snack on during those first marathon nursing sessions! And maybe something else pampering just for her to look forward to once the baby's a bit bigger? My step-mom bought me a Victoria's Secret gift card lol, kind of as a "you WILL feel sexy again eventually" gift, and I appreciated the thought a lot (even though I mostly bought myself new comfy jammies with it lol :haha:)

That's what I would have done :haha: Button down pyjamas are the ultimate luxury, even now!

I would definitely not buy bath products or lotions or if I was to, I would ask what brand she uses. The thing is so many people talk about Johnson's and Bio oil, but these products are full of toxic chemicals.

What about a post-maternity band? Like belly bandit (doesn't to be that particular brand because it's expensive).

I don't think I will, think I'll just stick with lavender oil. Erm not sure, do you know of any cheap ones? I got Spanx for post-birth but they cost me a fortune.

I find large cotton wool pads ready handy for when u just wash babies face etc. good for drying bottoms before cream etc as well! We get through a tonne of them! Some sort of nappy cream, bepanthen is good, u always need calpol lol, arnica tablets are excellent for bruising and swelling after birth I got advised to take these and obviously the sooner u take them the better! U can never have enough muslin cloths, little nail files are great for getting rid of sharp baby nails. And as others have said.. Chocolate! That's all I can think of for now!xxx

I really liked having cooling witch hazel around and I swear by Liz Earle's eye brightener for very tired eyes. Sort of perks you up a bit after yet another sleepless night (which is a killer in the first few weeks, so anything that can help with not feeling tired!)

Also loved the breastfeeding cushion that my Mum got me. Its tough when baby sleeps in your arms on the couch after breastfeeding as your arm goes dead, so that was great to support sleeping baby, it also doubles up as a back cushion in bed and you can also sit on it to help with after labour soreness.

Umm if I was to make an emergency kit this is what I would put
-baby wipes
-drink bottle
-lavender oil
-coconut oil
-box of museli bars(any snack bars) because I was always hungry while BFing
-nursing tank top
-breast pads
-hair ties/clips if she has long hair(I always misplace mine)
-gift card so she can get makeup or pjs etc(cause when baby came out I became way more cheapo on myself LOL)
-hand moisturizer(I washed my hands soo much they looked awful!)

Hi
Not read all replies so I might be repeating some of the thing other people have said. I would of love a thermo cup as in the first few months I didnt get to drink a warm cup of coffee. Face mask and relaxing bubble bath for mum and baby wipes, burp cloths, bibs, nappie cream, bath toys, wash cloths, bath temperature monitor, nappies, baby nail clippers, for Lo. I hope this helps, I think it's a fab idea and wish someone would of done one for me. X

Chocolate, gift card for her, coconut oil, breast pads I love the dry shampoo idea you had ( I think it was you) hair ties are always helpful ... Energy drinks if she likes that kind of thing...

Some snack and energy bars might be good, I loved them because they are easy to eat one handed while feeding etc. I kept them in my side table. (and they don't expire quickly so you don't have to worry if you don't see her right away)

I see you're in the UK, I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with what brand you have over there. I bought mine at a local store (Motherhood Maternity). I don't know if it's exclusively in the US. It cost $25 which is pretty cheap: https://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=914950577&MasterCategory_Id=MC32

maybe a nice nursing friendly pajamas or some slippers/sllipper socks too?

I'm doing the same thing for a friend of mine due in June. Here's my idea list so far (thank you pinterest)
Chicken Soup for the Mothers Soul
Lotion
Chocolate covered almonds
breast pads
baby hand/face wipes
lanolin

Would it be odd to include supplements like Fenugreek and Mothers Milk tea?

You could hand make her some cute "I owe you one babysitting session" coupons for her to redeem with you! :)

My favorite things especially at the beginning were my comfy pajama pants and my washable breast pads. My mom made a bunch of the breast pads for me, but I know you can buy them also. The water bottle is a great idea too, maybe more than one. I seem to get horribly thirsty just after I've sat down to nurse, and of course I've left my glass of water in another room every time.

I thought about this too but 1) they're not really necessary unless you have supply problems and 2) so many people end up deciding that BF isn't for them after a few days that it could be a waste. It's a tough one!

I'd love to babysit any time but we live miles away so it wouldn't be practical, plus I don't know her too well, she's more of OH's friend than mine.

JoJo Maman sell the tummy bands. Also try figleaves and Asos.

I use the Burts Bees vitamin e oil and it's lovely. I got some sanctuary (boots) smellies but tbh I chucked it as they didnt suit me. Other people rave about them though. I would have loved some face wipes for myself and a pot of my face cream. Like pp I can't afford to spend money on myself now and that would have helped. A massage voucher or hair appt would have been good. I wish I had, had a feeding pillow though.
