Hi, i have my driving test in just over a week and am a little worried incase they make me do an emergency stop! Does anyone know if these are safe to do whilst pregnant? I really don't want to hurt my baby!

Thanks xx

You will be fine. The baby is well padded in there, even if you were to be in an accident, it takes a very severe accident to hurt the baby, usually you get hurt way worse first. Hmm...that wasn't very reassuring.... You will be fine. :)

The emergency stop is a standard part of every test. The examiner will tell you when you get to that part so you will have a bit of pre-warning and will be in complete control of the situation - and you won't be going very fast either. My friend passed her test when she was pregnant and was fine.

I was in the car with her a couple of weeks ago when she had to do an emergency stop and the seatbelt didn't actually tighten over my belly, there was just a bit of pressure on the bit over my chest as I leaned forward.

You would only need to worry if you actually hit something, but even then it would be more your chest than your belly that would get the most of the impact. About 8yrs ago I crashed into the back of another car while doing about 45/50mph and I had a massive black bruise on my boob where the seatbelt dug in, but no injury to my stomach area.

I hope everything goes well with your test - fingers crossed for you xxxxx

Thanks for replying :) I feel a lot better now :) I know i worry way too much but just can't seem to help it! xx

We all worry - it's all part of being a mummy :)

u can buy seat belt adapters so the seat belt doesn't go over the bump??
as long as ur not on anti-d treatment then i can't see there bein a problem.
however, jus a warnin, i'm rhesus negative nd have been told that if i have any abdominal injuries (inc seatbelt injuries caused by an emergency / quick stop), then i have to go to a&e to get an anti-d jab.
xx

My friend did her test at 36 wks and told the examiner and he didn't include it as part of her test. She might have just had a nice one though ;-) x x x

i had my test at 26 weeks with my second child and it wasnt included in the test x

If you tell your driving examiner they may not make you do it, but they see it as if you were driving along and a kid ran out in front would you not slam on because your pregnant. It is not going to do any harm to your baby dont worry

I have mine in a few weeks too, I think they select a couple of manoeuvres so you don't have to do everything. With any luck you'll get a nice one. I might mention it to my instructor and maybe he can mention it to the test people just to say that I have done it adequately in lessons, so maybe not do it in the test. Not sure if he will though, we'll see. Getting nervous about it now and very emotional at the moment which doesn't help!

Although the baby will be fine, sudden jolts can cause the placenta to tear which is really the only fear of falling and accidents and such. I know that's a worst case scenario bu maybe you should call ahead and speak to them about omitting that part due to pregnancy as it seems a lot of ladies didn't have it included and were able to test anyway. Why put yourself in danger needlessly right?

Good luck on the test by the way!

They only do the emergency stop in 1 in 3 tests. (I passed fourth time and only did it once lol)

If you tell them you are pregnant your test will not include the emergency stop. xx

dont think its standard every where i did my first test in birmingham and it was one of the maneuvers and i didnt do it at all, but i failed any ways lol then my second test was in northern ierland and it was part of the test and the other 2 maneuvers luckly i passed it lol and that was 18 months ago dont think its changed to much xx lucky my dad is my instructor could of got expensive lol

Where I am the emergency stop is 1 in 3 and I passed third time last week and never had it. I did my second test whilst 6 weeks pregnant and baby brain completely kicked in and I even got a dangerous. on my test last week bubba was kicking me the whole way round and I passed with only 4 minors. If you bring it up yourself and have a nice instructor, it gives you something to talk about and kept my mind off the nerves. Good luck and let us know if you pass.

i would let him know, on your test it is only standard to do two manouevers so you could just ask if he could leave this out, i dont think i would be too comfortable doing it also....

p.s. good luck, hope you pass, big help kids and cars....

Honey I wouldn't worry too much. When I was pregnant with my 4th I got hit from behind whilst I was stationary, the car behind was doing 30-35mph and both of our cars were totalled. My airbag activated and gave me a swollen nose and 2 massive black eyes and my neck swelled up twice its size. I was so worried about the bubba but the Dr's told me that they are well protected and he was absolutely fine. It happened at 30 weeks and he was born at 37 weeks absolutely healthy.
Good luck in your test. xxxx

Thanks everyone. I will perhaps mention it to the examiner, although my bump is huge so think he will notice anyway hopefully!
I will let yous all know what happens! It's a week tomorrow, i am soooo nervous!! Really want to pass, it's way too expensive to keep failing! xx

If your really concerned, tell the instructor you dont like doing it because your pregnant. They might not be able to over rule it but at least you tried. You will be fine :)

OH AND GOOD LUCK :)

I'd mention that you're pregnant - it means that the examiner will understand that you'll be a safer driver as it's not just you that you're worrying about! I passed my test last week, and I'm sure the 'baby chat' meant that he was a bit nicer. An emergency stop is really unlikely to do any damage, especially as he'll make sure you're not going anywhere near 30mph if you do it. Good luck!!!!!

I had one when i was very first pregnant if you tell your examiner they won't make you do it hun.
