Hi! I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis last April. I've been trying to conceive for 4 years and 4 months. It's been very tough, but trying to stay positive. I've recently gone to the infertility specialist where they stated that IVF would be my best bet for pregnancy. They put me on birth control pills for 3 months and stated we can begin the IVF process after that. Well my husband and I aren't sure IVF is the right way to go for us to conceive. I was thinking maybe just stay on the pill for the 3 months and then get off of them and see what happens naturally. I can try IVF next summer once I know more information and I'm out of school (I'm a teacher).

My question is does any of you know someone who took birth control for their endo and got pregnant after getting off?

Thank you!

I think the bcp might help, but I do know that a lot of girls with endometriosis actually go on the Lupron depo for 3 months before doing IVF of after ( and they freeze all the embryos they get from IVF) and that is helpful for a lot of those ladies.

I tried off and on for 10 years to get pregnant with endometriosis. Probably 5 years combined.

Endometriosis I think is the number one cause of infertility. I know that when a woman is experiencing infertility and the doctors can find no other reason they look for endometriosis. A lot of the problem is inflammation. Another problem is the woman's immune system. I think 30% of women with endometriosis have immune issues preventing implantation of a baby or the immune systems attacks implanting babies root system and prevents the pregnancy from developing beyond 12 weeks,if it allows the baby to implant at all.

What happens is your immune System knows that the endometriosis implants are out of place, and so what your immune system does is it's constantly trying to heal it, like it would a cut. So your immune system is in overdrive and tries kill anything that enters your body. The implants also release a toxic fluid that is harmful to eggs and sperm, so even if the egg and sperm meet, the embryo is harmed by these toxic fluids. If the embryo is not harmed by the toxic fluids, your natural killer cells and cytokines prevents implantation. Women with these issues also can have clotting disorders and thyroid problems.

It's really hard for me to explain, but what I had to do is see a doctor called a reproductive immunologist. Regular OBGYNs or reproductive endocrinologists aren't really that educated on this because not every doctor can be an expert in all fields of medicine. In order to get pregnant I had to suppress my immune system with steroids, IVIg and then I had to take lovenox which is a blood thinner, and then I had to do IVF to surpass the toxic fluids that are excreted by the endo implants.

Not every woman with endo will need to do this. I think only 30% of women with endo have these problems. There are women who have one or two pregnancies and then their immune system flares. Some women with endo get pregnant without any medical intervention or they get pregnant with just IVF or iui and don't need to suppress their immune system.

There are tests that can be done to see if you do fall in the same category as myself. But they need to be done by the proper doctor, which is a reproductive immunologist. Some things that will help your fertility that I was told to take by RE and my reproductive endocrinologist are: pharmaceutical grade fish oil in high doses. This is for inflammation and it also can lower the natural killer cells ( part of your immune system). Baby aspirin, and this is because when you have immune issues that sometimes come with endo, it can cause tiny blood clots in your uterus and that can contribute to a baby not implanting properly. Women immune implantation dysfunction can also lack the ability to absorb folic acid properly so you need to take folate. Coq10 600mg all at once is good for your eggs. French maritime pine bark is also clinically proven to help. I forgot exactly how but I'm sure you can look into it.

If there is anything I can do to help you, please send me a message. I hope for you that you don't need the other immune treatments, and i sincerely wish you the best of luck.
