Im pretty sure that in the UK, the rule is this -
if you're low risk, you're advised to eat small snacks regularly throughout your labour to keep your energy levels up....if you're high risk, you're advised not to eat at all (because you are more likely to need a C-section). when you're high risk, you are likely to be given an intravenous drip, which includes glucose to keep your energy levels up that way.
