Expats

Hi.

Can I join up!. From UK but now living in Frankfurt, Germany ?

of course you can, welcome :) How did you end up in Frankfurt, I went there once about 15 years ago, was nice! xx

Hi all.

We've been living in Germany for 3 years now, DH asked to transfer by his company as he's in finance and there european hq are in Frankfurt. I also managed to get a transfer with the US company I work for,so it worked out nicely for us.

Gave birth to Riya here and it is tough not having family for support , help but as we're only an hour from UK, our parents do come over regularly. Got a great social group of expats though over here, but not many have kids.

I noticed that there are a few people from the UAE here, we've just returned from 2 week vacation in Dubai. We've been there every year at thic time of year for the last 4 years, always the same resort - welove it there and would love to transfer out there with our companies.

Hubby works for air force. Yes we live on acompound outside Riyadh. Took a while to adjust to compound life and saudi

Hey little vixe, im in oman too!!! where abouts are you?

We moved here as dh grew up here & wanted to move out of uk as everything was so expensive, we are going to be moving in a few weeks though as have found the part of Oman we are in much too quiet!

Hi, yeah it was very depressing in Salalah when we were there. Where r u guys planning to move next? Even here in Muscat has very limited things to do either . Same old same old and still lots of staries. Can't wait to move to Dubai. Is ur hubby Omani? :flower:

Hubby is Indian not Omani, the Omani guy who owns the internet cafe we used to go to wants to marry a Spanish lady & he has to get permission from the gov, has to be interviewed & apparently its really hard for them to get permission to marry a non Omani!

We are trying to decide where to go next, either thinking on Dubai or Europe, we were going to go back to uk but now starting to think we would like to stay abraod a while longer, just where there is much more to do & no staries!!

Did you give birth here? I did in SQH as i was high risk Badra would not take me, it was terrible:cry: xx

what was it like giving birth in Germany? Where the facilities the same as at home etc? xx

Per the stereotype everything is so well organized and efficient in Germany. Very glad we chose to have Riya in Frankfurt and not the UK.

Throughout the pregnancy I was given a scan every 2 weeks up until 20 weeks and then 1 per month thereafter, we have a whole album of 3d scans if Riya from 6 weeks to 38 weeks. There is no waiting list, if I had a problem I just called my OB and would usually be seen the same day.

Re the birth, had own room for 5 days afterwards with very good postnatal care.

We've already decided that when we have another our preference is to give birth at same hospital again assumping we are still resident in Germany.

Sounds like it was a really good experience! Are you hoping to stay in Germany long term?

So chuffed to have found this thread. I moved away from the uk in february pending the birth of our baby. We're now living in Gibraltar (British colony on the southern coast of spain). My husband was born and raised here, and it was always his intention to raise kids here. I lived here for a year in 2004 so I already know the area, but obviously being away from all my family and friends at such a scary time isn't ideal. It's nice to find ladies who know what I'm going through. Most people think the sunshine makes up for it, and forget what you have given up in the process.

hey Lara :) welcome! Are you giving birth back in Uk or in Gibraltar? xx

In Gibraltar; however I made that decision before realising they don't give epidurals here  I'm sure I will be fine, but I don't think it will stop me asking for one!

Hi all,

I would love to join. I am Irish but have been living in the UK for the past 7 years. Our aim is to move to just outside Barcelona eventually so I would love to be part of the group.

i gave birth in oman & they would not give any pain relief at all, i was induced & in agony, but they would not give anything at all!!

welcome :flower: when do you think you will be able to move?

Nice group :)

I'm "sort of" an expat - I'm still in Canada but I'm moving to French Canada (Quebec) in a few months, and my French isn't that great. I've been taking lessons but I really need the immersion experience. We plan on living there permanently.

Thanks Caz. We are hoping to move to Spain before Max is 3 (he is nearly 4 weeks now). We are hoping OH will get a job over there as there is one company over there that employs English speaking people. He might have to go back to uni and get some extra qualifications first though.

We are determined to get there though!

iI think its easier to learn a language when you are there, apart from here as everyone wants to speak in English to me to improve their language skills!!

Hi, can I join? I'm not a expat at the moment, we recently moved back to the UK from Lanzarote as I got really homesick when I was pregnant but we may well move back abroad at some point in the future.
