can i mix milk expressed now to the 1 from this morning??

sure, but then throw it by tomorrow morning if it isn't used. (And be sure to refridgerate it if it's going to be out more than a half hour or so.

thanks margele!
i thought u can keep it in fridge for 48hours tho??

well I guess I'm a bit anal especially if I'm mixing milk, and if its going to be in and out of the fridge a lot

thing is it takes me a while to get a decent amount of milk anyway so i wouldnt want to waste it!

I expressed earlier in afternoon & only got 2oz and expressed just now & got the same!!

I dont know how some of u are expressing 4-5oz from both sides??!!

I can only get 1-2oz off aswell. I normally put them all in the fridge seperately and keep then in the fridge for a maximum of 48hrs from the time I expressed the 1st milk. I just then mix them together when I need them and warm it up.

If I do mix them though I put the one I last expressed in the fridge to cool for about 30 mins then mix them :)

Yes your correct... as long as you refrigerate it it is fine. And do not put re-heated milk in the fridge, if you reheat it to feed and bubs doesn't finish, throw it out.

And yes to your original question :D You can mix/add to already used milk. Like Rachel said, cool the new one first :)

angelica, keep at the expressing. i express milk as when my wee man was born he was rather ill with low blood sugar and spent 8 days in an incubater being drip fed. when he was allowed milk the doctors told me not to breast feed him as they needed to monitor his food intake so i had to express and give him formula. now he won't take to the breast at all. just cries and gets angry.

to the point, wee man is 2 weeks 5 days old and i can now express 150 mils from one breast alone at one pump and it only takes me about 10 mins, if that. so it does get better! i am still trying to get him to the breast but he just seems to like the bottle!

:hugs: :hugs:

That's what I do too if I'm mixing them - so you're not putting warm milk into chilled milk that was expressed earlier x

I used to just mix them. I figured it was all my milk so I couldnt see what difference it made.

and i thought milk could be kept for a few days in fridge? LEast thats what it said in the literature the hospital gave me.

It can... but if I'm mixing expressions, and/or taking the bottle in and out of the fridge part of the day cuz she's not taking it well or whatever- I throw it out as soon as I'm in a position to feed her again, or only keep it a total of 24 hours... but again, I guess I'm anal that way.
