extended bf-ers

that sounds like a good plan Jenx

yeah, we had a friend over the other day and I was trying to hold off her nursing until they left, they ended up staying about an hour past her usual naptime tho so I ended up taking her into the bedroom for a quick feed.

So glad I'm not the only one still feeding! My twins are coming up to 26 months now and are still night feeding. I basically forced them to stop day feeding around 22 months although we do occasionally backtrack a bit if there is injury or illness!
I really hate the sleep disturbance but dont want to stop them yet either.

yeah I wish we meshed better in the night, lately we've both been restless but at diff times! i'll wake up to pee/drink and shes fast asleep taking up the whole bed, then I get back to sleep and wake up to her rooting around for me at the end of the bed by my feet, lol

I´m still feeding my 17 month old but we´ve just night weaned her (started 2 weeks ago) and it´s gone great. She´s been a terrible sleeper all along and fed/confort fed lots in the night and I was exhausted (I´m 13 weeks pregnant). She took to the weaning briliantly straight away, no crying, falls asleep on her dads shoulder and goes back down in her cot no problem...I´m actually amazed because she´s been such a booby baby. She now feeds for her nap and bedtime and sometimes asks for a feed frst thing in the morning.

Breastfeeding my little girl still at 20 months and very proud.

She only has 3 feeds most days. Morning, before nap and bedtime.

She also will have it if she wakes in the night but thankfully that's not a very regular occurrence.

Or of course if she's feeling unwell or upset etc.

It's probably one of my favourite parts of our relationship and I'm hoping we've got a while ahead of us yet.

I've not been on here for a while but just wanted to say :hi:
We're still bfing and co-sleeping here as well and LO just turned 2.
Some days she's into eating foods, some days I swear she looks at me and just sees a milk cow :p

They grow up so quickly so I'm cherishing every snuggle, every nurse session we still have. My son will be 13 and the hugging/kissing/snuggling is pretty much gone

hey here-we-go !!

yeah, I love the cuddles. im probably at my most content/happy in life when we're snuggled up on the couch.

are you feeding in the night still?

I'm still breastfeeding my 3 year old at nap times and bedtimes, when he is ill and during the night if he wakes up. I don't know when he will stop! He's a proper booby boy lol. I'm so over it but he is far from wanting to give up breastfeeding. It's nice if he is actually drinking only, but he fiddles or just sucks which can grate on me. But the bond is amazing at times.

Sorry to crash the thread (never extended bf) bf is going very well for me this time around. I'm wondering what are the benifits of feeding past 1 year?

Yep, still doing night feeds. Some nights it's only once but other nights she's more on than off, IYKWIM. She nurses sometimes before naps and usually has a morning snuggle/sip.

I'm trying the don't offer/don't refuse thing as hubby is beginning to frown about it now that she's 2. Some days she'll just nurse 1-2 times and then other times she practically tackles me to go up (or down) my shirt

I think if I could get her into her own bed, she might stop the night feedings completely.
This is the first time I've ever nursed this long before so not quite sure how to stop to be honest.

For those who have verbal toddlers, what does your LO say your milk tastes like? Mine insists it tastes like strawberries.

lol! ive never asked her, guess I will have to see what she says !

Still nursing my 15 month old . I don't think he'll be ready to give it up anytime soon. He still nursing 3-4 times a day and once at night

Tandem feeding here. My DD has just turned 3 and still nurses to sleep and asks for it at least once in the day. I try to dissuade her in the day but sometimes give in. I ask her if she likes the milk or the cuddles and she tells me both.
I do find it painful though and there are always indentations from her teeth.

how did you manage the newborn days? to get the new baby the 'super' milk that comes in?

Hey extended breastfeeders, how do you avoid the nipple chomps? My one year old gives me a couple good ones every day. I say OW loudly and pull him away from the breast. It's making me want to quit breastfeeding.

It took a long time to get my son to understand biting hurts. He thought it was hilarious. It wasn't until last week (when he just turned 23 months) that I got him to understand.

I would tell him it hurts and to please don't bite mommy but he laughed. He's started to realize things are "ow" now and will kiss ow's. I told him it is ow for mommy and he offered to kiss. Since then it's been perfect.

Good luck! I know how much it hurts! My little guy went through a few stages of biting at the end of each nursing session. Makes you scared to nurse.
