extended bf-ers

Aww a poppyseed... I remember those days! :)

We are at 38 months now and no end in sight. She is just absolutely obsessed and I can't even count the amount of feeds she has day and night, including a loooong feed between 3-5am most mornings.
I have heard being pregnant sometimes changes the taste of the milk and puts them off, but I can't see it deterring her. I think she would still feed even if they were empty!

Congratulations! :)

Speaking from my own experience, none of those things made my kiddo want to stop. He did cut out all nursing except for going to sleep for naps and bedtime and if he was upset/sick/hurting when my milk dried up. When my colostrum came in at 24 weeks he redoubled his nursing efforts... Ouch! Haha!

How do your OHs feel about extended BFing?? Anyone else coming up against opposition? :/ I just know that other people'd be thinking it too, but as a few others have said I couldn't care less what they think haha.. But I can see it maybe causing a few arguments between us.. I hope not, maybe I'm just overthinking it. Hopefully the time will come and it'll just be the norm for him too and it won't be that big a deal..

he's on board with the extended bf

the only time he's mentioned weaning is when ive had a particularly shitty stretch of sleep and feel 'over it' (always around my period!!) he's offered to help settle her in the night if need be. but I always get over it after a few days and we happily carry on :haha:

I remember SIL and MIL making comments about my other SIL bfing after age two. they havnt said anything to my face tho!

I don't really think a lot of ppl are really aware, I don't feed her when we're out and about or when ppl are over, etc. i have never nursed in public (maybe once or twice awkwardly on a secluded bench at the back of the park on a quiet day:haha::haha:) and only when ppl were at ours in the early early days of newborn-ness. its not something i talk about unless with a few other moms i know that are or did extended nursing

oh, scratch that, i did let her feed on a plane at around 18 months. im not sure if other ppl were put off, i was window seat and just had a baggy top on. it kept her quiet and put her to sleep tho and when we were getting off the plane everyone that passed by commented how well she did on the flight (not a peep)

Thank you! :)
Oh dear! Hopefully your LO will start to cut down his nursing before baby is born. That's what I'm hoping for Holly but I think she feeds more than a newborn right now!

I'm expecting Finn to want to nurse every time his sister nurses when she comes. I'm hoping it will only be a new thing and will settle back down after a little while.

He's only nursing a few times a day/night again now. He went through a stage where he was asking for it a lot when my colostrum first came in. But thankfully it calmed down. Now I'm having a problem with him nursing really hard when he does nurse. Besides hurting it is also causing a few small contractions sometimes and that is making me nervous with the bleeding I've had/am having.

what a shame I didn't find this thread earlier!!

my LO (3 years and 3 months) hasn't asked for boob in 3 days and I can't stop crying!

I've been working very slowly and gently on breaking the nursing to sleep association, but I wasn't expecting this!

Awww :( Sending you lots of hugs! I can't even think of (kiddo led) weaning yet. :(

I'm thinking of throwing in the towel. The nipple chomps have gotten worse lately. I got six yesterday and they're excruciating, especially one when Bobby clamped down and yanked (then laughed!! The wee demon.)

Please help with any advice. I say NO and remove him immediately but it's not working :(

Well we just passed the two year milestone this past weekend. She's nursing a ton the last couple of days- growth spurt, maybe? She's eating more food, too, so maybe that is it. This stage is tough- on the one hand I feel so over it, but on the other it can make life so much easier and soothe in so many situations.

so tomorrow will be a week since the last feed... :)thumbup: and )
He asked for boob yesterday and today when he woke up but got distracted very quickly with something else

do you think I'd still have any milk now?

It's been almost a month since I fed my LO and I still have milk, so I'm sure you do after only a week!

DD1 is almost 4 and still has an evening feed. She was feeding several times a day until I got pregnant with her sister. During pregnancy she gradually reduced her feeds to just a bed time feed. We've stuck with that ever since. The feed got longer again when the milk came back in, but she rarely asks to feed at other times, and was so pleased with setting her sister feed that she never wanted to feed like a newborn herself. Recently, her bedtime feeds were getting longer and longer, which I found irritating, and she still isn't dry at night. I figured she has no chance of being dry at night if she's feeding so much just before going to sleep, so I'm now feeding her earlier in the evening and she goes to sleep with cuddles. She's very happy with this change and I find the feed much more pleasant! She's thinking of weaning once she turns 4. We'll see!

Mine went through a phase of this I think at same age as your LO (looking at your ticker). I got a really bad bite that took 10 days or so to heal more of a really bad scrape as I tried to remove toddler. It was horrible as like you say they think the reaction is funny. I just removed and placed child on floor said "no biting; biting hurts" or words to effect. I would have quit too but it didn't last I'm not sure why but they got bored pretty quickly.

I've had a few minor bites recently (they are 2.5yo now) but not as bad. Sometimes they just get the devil in them I think.

sorry I do not have any advice as luckily my LO never did this. I think he bit me once and I only said 'if you bite again there is no more boob'. He didn't do it again but to be honest, I do not think that my threat had anything to do with it...

:hugs:
