so i have had my renewal pack through for family tax credits today but am really worried about ringing them up as the actually amount on my partners p60 is less than the amount i estimated for 2011 to 2012 due to him being made redundant last july until september,so the actually figure is about 2000 less than what i had estimated so will this mean we have been overpaid and we owe them money or will it mean we have been underpaid and they will owe us??:shrug:does anyone know??,i have been claiming family tax credits for years but always been quite spot on with our estimates so haven't got a clue:shrug:help!!!!

If he earned less then they wouldn't take money away - if anything owe you more (as far as I understand things).

If they've overpaid us in the past they don't take money back - like they can't take it out of your bank account - but they will reduce future payments by the amount overpaid.

Hope that makes sense :)

Ive just called today as I earnt £2.5k less than expected she just said to expect possible interim awards while they recalculate as I may be owed more money. If you always inform them of changes they dont take back, but its in your benefit to tell them you got less money as most likely they owe you.

We informed them of changes (more income), nothing changed. What's your bet they won't ask for any of it back?

I have made a record of the date of the conversation, what was said and what the tax credit man's name was that we spoke to. How long do they keep recordings for? Do they record all calls?
