Father in Law referred to my breastmilk as 'shit'! :(

Yesterday we went to my FIL's house. He was getting something from the fridge and asked if LO would like some milk. I said that she didn't really like cow's milk and that the last time I had given her some she'd just spat it out. He then said to LO 'would you like some of this milk? It's better than that other shit you have!'

I am SO angry!! How DARE he refer to my breastmilk as SHIT?! That breastmilk has grown his granddaughter from 7lbs to around 19.5 lbs and since she barely eats solids, if she didn't have breastmilk then she'd never eat at all. LO loves breastmilk and gets so much comfort from feeding, it's like the answer to everything. How the hell can he say that?! I know that he disagrees with me still breastfeeding, but to refer to my breastmilk as 'shit' is just disrespectful and disgusting

I feel you! i just posted saying i want to give up bf but have since changed my mind when i read it back and realised that the main reason is because other people are not comfortable with the idea of extended bf. In fact people have been going on at me since he started solids! Ignore him! he is being ignorant!

It's so hard feeding baby if your family aren't supportive of bfing at all! I used to get dirty looks from my parents and comments like "hungry again ALREADY? But you only fed 2 hours ago!". I'd give dirty glares back and say "you're having another cup of tea? Didn't you have one like 30 mins ago?" and they soon learnt to shut up lol.

Honestly, the best way to stop hurtful comments is to say something cutting back again

Tell him you'd prefer her drink YOUR milk that is full of nutrients than some animal's milk that really should be going to IT'S baby rather than a human being and is full of hormones and other additives!

I prefer almond milk to cow's milk. I will drink cow's milk on occasion but I find almond milk is way easier on my stomach.

What an ignorant pig! I really don't understand how people can be anti-bf. my friends dad is anti-bf and always questions why I bother as its a 'waste of time.' Sometimes I'm tempted to explain all the benefits to him but I really can't be bothered as I know he will just argue back. It is so frustrating.

Mia_leacey, how could anyone think bf is kinky?! I do wonder what goes on in some people's minds sometimes

I also wonder, why do some people find it more weird for a baby to drink breast milk than cows milk? Shouldn't they find the thought of drinking milk from another animal more weird? I don't find either weird, but it doesn't make sense

I was too shocked to say anything! Plus I'm quite a shy person. I checked with my DH when we got home that that was definitely what he was referring to and my DH said yes, he thinks it's his way of telling me that he disagrees with me still breastfeeding. I don't know why he thinks I need to know this, it's not like I'm going to quit just because he disagrees with it!
