DH and I chose not to use any contraception since LO was born. We decide to just not try and not prevent for religious reasons. I would love to have another baby the only thing that worries me is nursing. My period came back much earlier than I thought it would at 6 months post birth and I really wanted to nurse LO til 1.5 years. I have come to terms with the fact that that probably wont happen and anyway is more selfish from me because after a year he doesnt need the milk anymore. So now I just really want to make it to a year. He is almost 9 months old. So if I get pregnant now then I can nurse through the first trimester I am really hoping. I am so afraid that my milk will dry up or something. The other thing I am worried about is that LO doesnt take a bottle. At best he will take a little juice out of a sippy cup and he also uses the boob for comfort and to fall asleep at night. It is so easy to use the boob, it calms them down and I feel I have become dependant on it. I feel a bit lost as to how I am gonna cope without it.
So last month when I took a pregnancy test being two weeks late I was kind of relieved I wasnt pregnant. I was going to start trying when LO was a year old for the next one if I went on contraception and I am certainly not going to go back on the pill now ( which is the only method I am allowed to use).

Just wanted to let it out and maybe get some advice.

Thanks

Just because you're having a period doesn't mean you're ovulating.

Could you use opk's as a form of contraception? You can't get pregnant if you're not ovulating and if you are they'll tell you when x

i don't really have much advice sweetie, but wanted to send some :hugs: x x x

I did check the opks the first month and i got a positive so i think i am ovulating, i could use that method to try "avoid", but I dont think i want to...

You need to take some time and decide if you are ready for another baby yet. If not then look into natural family planning, as far as I know that's fine with all religions. It's a question that only you can answer.

Well you can tandem nurse, while pregnant and after the baby is born. There are loads of good reasons to continue to nurse after 12 months as well. But I agree with Marley, decide what you want to do and go from there.

I just want to nurse while i am pregnant 10 months or more from now i dont want to carry on with LO because he will be old enough to come off the boob i think. I wouldnt go past a year and a half. I just have heard that your milk supply is much less while pregnant and have been told by lots of friends its too dangerous to nurse while pregnant.

It is NOT dangerous to nurse during pregnancy, but it is possible for your milk to decrease. I am still nursing Kaya once a day, though my supply has dropped considerably, but I have not had any problems with the pregnancy at all (touch wood). The only time it can be dangerous is if you have a risk of premature labour. have a look here for more info - https://www.kellymom.com/bf/tandem/index.html

how did u know your supply was down?

I noticed a bit of pain, as if she was sucking but I was dry, so I tried expressing a little in the shower, but instead of getting jets of milk as I normally would have I just got drips. I was worried she was going to stop nursing altogether as she really cut down, but we're still on that one feed a day for the time being.

how far along are u, how many feeds were u on a day when u got preg?

Well I'm 4 months along. She was night weaned for the most part when I got pregnant but was still nursing 6-8 times a day. But I got pregnant the first month of not trying/not preventing. I know what my ovulation signs are, so although my cycles were really long (35-40 days) I roughly knew when I was fertile. Of course, that month my cycle decided to be about 28 days so I'd convinced myself that my signs were wrong that month lol.

Its perfectly safe to nurse when pregnant its just some people advise not to if you have a history of misscarriages as it can cause ur womb/uterus (always get those two confused lol) to contract which is obviously something you dont want if uve already had previous misscarriages.

I carried on nursing when i got pregnant. Jaycob was 2 (24 months) when i got pregnant with Noah (5 months now) and everything went fine 1st trimester i noticed my nipples were more sensitive than normal but after a few weeks this went away. Even though he was 2 he still fed a lot, more so for comfort really but hed have a gud 6-8 feeds a day and my milk didnt start to dry up or anything if anything it came in more with the reproduction of stronger hormones. When Noah was born in October my colostrum came is ok and everythings been great! One plus of already nursing was this time my boobs were never engored or sore and didnt leak once! Because they have been feeding for so long they just knew what to do and did it lol The only thing i did different is as i got further along id lie down on the bed and feed him so to to put added pressure on my tummy but other than that everything else was the same lol

Dont worry about it just go with the flow and if you are pregnant and want to carry on feeding do it! Good Luck!!! xxxxxx

THANKS this was so helpful!

sallam...I breast feed in even my last pregnancy till i was around 6 months pregnant. The docs keep telling me that I had to stop. I had some spotting in the early weeks and the docs told me that my breastfeeding was causing the bleeding. I didnt believe them and continued and everything turned out fine!! You can breastfeed and ovulate and get pregnant and have happy babies..best wishes to you

I dont have any advice hun but i hope u get it all sortedwith what u want to do. Good luck for the future xx

I think for some bfing can "confuse" your body... but most people it is ok.

I think you just need to think about what your plan will be. At his age he doesn't really need a bottle, so i'd maybe just stick with the sippy cup.
