Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone has seen the fertility nurse at Bedford Cygnet Wing. I have waited so long to be referred and imagined that I would be seeing a Doctor? Not wanting to sound mean to Nurses, but this just seems like a long wait to see a nurse. Can a nurse order tests etc?

I saw a psychic about 9 months ago who said I would fall pregnant with twins this month. I have just started spotting so it hasn't come true. I feel so stupid for clinging on to her prediction. I honestly thought it would happen.

Why can't I have my baby? It has been 20 months and I have had enough now; I feel terrible for saying that as I know some of you have tried for years. I am sorry.

:hugs:

I haven't been to the Bedford Cygnet Wing hun but i see what you mean about seeing a nurse. We have just had a our first appt with the fertility clinic in liverpool and we saw a doctor who has ordered all the various tests. What did the nurse say?????

And you don't need to apologise as 20 months is a frustrating amount of time! We've beey ttc for two years and it seems like about ten years !!!!

Yes, the nurse can order tests. She will ask you a few questions and then send you off for the usual blood tests and semen analysis (if you haven't had one yet). At the same time you should make an appointment to see the consultant, which will be about 2-3 months after the appointment with the nurse (you have to have two lots of 21-day bloods, ie two cycle's worth).

The nurse I saw at Bedford was lovely. THe initial appointment is just to take notes and order various blood tests, so it's not neccessary to see the consultant.

When you see the consultant she will look at the results of the blood tests and SA. She will do an internal scan and may send you for a HSG.

Hi. The nurses there are lovely and you will spend more time with them doing the history stuff and starting the process. I had Dr Wallace as a consultant and she was great, but very straight talking - but sometimes that is what i need. Good luck

hiya, i go 2 bedford also, weve been trying 3 1/2 yrs unexplained, im currently on 3rd round of clomid, things do move quite quickly once u start having ur appointments weve also been referred for ivf also which there isnt much waiting time,my advice to u is, make sure u ask all the questions u need to ask, i had to keep asking the same questions as they cudnt give me straight answers, they told me i woz fine i told them i know my body & i dont feel i ovulate every month even though blood tests showed i woz fine, but low & behold last month on clomid i didnt respond at all they have now admitted there must b sumthing not right, they have now upped me 100mg y we wait for ivf,mrs wallace is very good but can b quite abrupt.
try & b positive
good luck.xx

are you sure the spotting is not from implantation?

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies. It is nice to know others are seeing the nurse at Bedford too. My problem with being referred to the nurse at this stage is that we have already had bloods done by doc (21 day) and that suggested I had ovulated etc. Hubby's sperm was fine and so I thought the next step would be to see the consultant. It feels a bit if we are being put back to the start of the process again. I thought I had started the process with the Doctors?

Don't you think they should have done more after 20 months of trying? Honestly I think I have had PID in the past due to infection (just a hunch) and I think my tubes are blocked. I really hope not though. I just want to start proper investigations otherwise I feel that I might fo mad.

The spotting deffo wasn't implantation - full flow past two days :(

Thanks all, perhaps us ladies under bedford hosp could keep this thread going?

I too had had the usual blood tests and DH had had his SA which was fine. It's just standard procedure that they send you for more blood tests first (they do your 3 day bloods as well as 21 day bloods).

If they find nothing wrong after all the blood tests and the HSG, do be prepared for the fact they will tell you to go away and keep trying until you get to the three year mark. I wanted to kill the consultant when she said that (only 5 months to go!).

i know its long winded billie & very frustrating,i feel very frustrated 2, but least now ur under the hospital it should all move quite quickly after having my ovaries checked i had my tubes checked the next day, but thats only coz i woz at the right time of my cycle, but if everything comes bk ok they may tell u 2 come bk at 3 years,i hope things move quickly 4 u.xx

Wowsers. Really - 3 years! I have done so much reading and thought I knew how this would go, but I have never heard of being told to go away and try until it gets to three years! Argh! I am just past fretting now I think. I need to stop getting my hopes up each month.

There are ladies on here that started trying when I did and now they are pregnant with their second baby! I am so pleased for them, but it is very frustrating. Thanks for your support ladies. I will come on here again tomorrow and let you know what the nurse said. More than likely you have given me all the answers!!

Love to all xxxx

Hi All,

Well I had my appt with Nurse Buck - she was lovely. I amswered all of her questions and she said that it was fab that I was ovulating, but she wanted to do more blood - another 21 day and a day 3 (which happened to be today so that was good). Then she went through DH's SA as we had just been told it was 'OK'. She said he was greedy as he has more than his fair share of sperm 125 million per ml!!

Basically - I have my next appt with Dr Wallace on December 12th, bnut she said that Dr Wallace will just send me away if I don't lose almost three stone between now and then. Awful thing is I was nearly three stone down in March and then I fell off the wagon after getting married and I have put it all back on again. I am a total idiot.

I just feel better knowing I have something to aim for although I knew that was what she was going to say so I should have got my arse in gear sooner. I cried a little bit as I felt so bad and she made it clear she didn;t think it was me being overweight that was the problem as I am ovulating. DH was very sweet and tried to comfort me, but I just felt so awful.

She did chuckle when she asked what DH's occupation was and I said 'personal trainer'! How ironic!!

Anyway that's me. Babydust to all xxxxxxx

Hiya, I know wot u mean I have close friends of mine that were trying wen I woz now 2 of them r preggers wiv there 2nd, yes ur right u just need 2 chill out abit, I started going hospital a year ago, then decided I wasn't ready, I think I woz kinda hoping I'd fall pregnant, I felt scared, then 1 day in feb I thought now I'm gona try everything 2 b a mum, I don't regret taking time out it helped me relax, it is a scary process, we've also been referred 4 ivf, so I'm just glad things r moving. Like I said the other day they will only send u away for a few months if all ur tests r clear, if they find a problem, it wud b a lot quicker, u will b fine. Positive things happen 2 positive people, well that's wot I tell myself lol.x

hi billie, least everything is moving now, just wanted 2 ask y ur appointment is so long 2 c dr wallace? x

Hi just wanting to introduce myself.. I have been ttc since june 13,2008. I was on depo for 2 years prior and and terribly afraid it ruined my chances to conceive. I just had a break down emotionally and thought I would seek out help here as my friends although they badly want to help really can't understand what I am going through.

@Babyhope2011 - Dr Wallace won't see me until I have lost 3 stone! Nurse Buck said she would give me an appointment with Dr W in six months and i said I would lose in it four. Going to see how I get on and maybe try call end of Oct to schedule it for earlier if some kind of weightloss miracle happens. I can lose weight really well. It is not going back to bingeing and putting it all back on that is my problem!!

It has been two days of being back on the wagon and I feel better already!
xx

@Jerden - are you working with your doctor and getting tests? Sending lots of hope to you. It is such a heartache isn't it! I waited such a long time to meet the right man and then I thought that when I decided to have a baby it would just happen. Lots of women are very lucky and it does happen for them. Our babies will be great treasures when they arrive!!

Babydust to you x

I know how you feel Billie - Dr Wallace says I'm not eligible for IVF unless I have a BMI of 19, which is so frustrating. But since you can't get IVF treatment for unexplained fertility until 3 years have passed, I've had the time to work on it. I've currently got a BMI of 18.82 (up from 17.45) and have until Jan to push it up to 19.

If you need motivation I really recommend www.fitnesspal.com . It's primarily a site for weight loss and gives you goals and tips and lets you record your calorie consumption. I'm sure you will lose the weight quickly.

Thank you Lawgirl. We are at totally opposite ends of the spectrum, but have the same end goal! I guess yours isn't self inflicted though! I can imagine it must be tough to put on weight if you are naturally tiny. Did you say your 3 yrs was up in 5 months? Do you think you will make that goal to have your BMI up by then?
xx

Yeah, it's really hard for me to gain weight. My mum is the same. I'm managing approx 1 pound a month through a diet of pasta, chocolate and build-up drinks and only have 2-3 pounds to go before I reach a BMI of 19. So I'm on track to be a little bit over 19 by January.

Lawgirl, have you consulted a nutritionist? My husband (who ironically is a personal trainer and nutritionist) recommends getting a bag of nuts in to your daily diet. Do you like nuts? He said your best bet is to eat something every hour and drink full fat milk whenever you can, but those are just the basics. I am sure you know those things.

xx
