Hey Ladies

What will happen at my first appointment? Can OH come with me?

I had endo removed in may and they said to come in three months if no BFP.....well i'm still waiting for my BFP so i'll be having my appointment and wondered what to expect?

any advice would be great

Thanks

My first appt was mainly a consulation. Filled out lots and lots of paperwork on my DH and myself. They will most likely either take some bloodwork then, or schedule a time for you to come back for blood.
My DH did come with me, which was good b/c I let him fill out all his info!

Good luck!

Great thanks....i'll make sure he can come with me then to fill in his info...

What tests did they do first for you?

xxx

I had all blood tests and DH sperm analysis before my first appointment so they were ready to discuss it at the meeting. Also had to fill in forms about criminal records and mental illness before the appointment! Mine was a brief consultation with Doctor who prescribed Clomid to regulate my ovulation and first appointment I think I was lucky though.

Thanks for asking this question Bird24 as we have our 1st appointment on 3rd September and have been wondering too what sort of things are likely to happen.

Also can anyone tell me if it makes a difference if dh doesn't go a sperm test until after the appointment? (Poor lamb is getting very nervous about doing this)

where did you have the tests before? at your normal doctors?

I want to send OH for a SA, but he just had one by the doctor and they didnt even seem to give him the right info...didnt say anything about keeping it warm and he had 2 hours to get it to them....just seems like everyone else has to be more careful....keeping it warm and getting it there asap....

I have had a 21 day blood test which said that my levels needed to be 30 to ovulate but mine were 27.4

how long were your cycles? how long have you been taking clomid?

xx Thanks

My GP wouldn't refer us to a consultant until DH had done his SA as she said they wouldn't know who/what the problem was so i think he should have it done before hand if possible, if not i imagine you'll be sent away for several months like we were despite having all the tests done already.

Me and my DH both went to the initial appointment. I had a pap smear, blood work, DH had a sperm analysis done and we both sat down and had a long talk with the doctor.

(This being said, next month, I have to go to an RE and will have to start all over again with the steps past Clomid.)

Thanks ladies

OH has done his SA last week but i cant see how they will get accruate results when they just told him to take it in within 2 hours and dont worry about keeping it warm....when everywhere else say you need to keep it warm and get it there asap after
but we'll see, should get the results soon

doesnt sound like i have much to look forward to about going then :(

I had the blood tests done at the doctors and then had to make sure that the clinic had a copy of the results. MY GP referred DH for the Sperm test and the results went there. She gave me a copy of his test to give to the clinic. Something to do with the referral being attached to me as a patient so they couldn't attach his notes as well. I just gave the copy of the results to the hospital.

My cycles were anything from 28 - 40 days but averaging about 32 days. I am on my second cycle of Clomid so fingers crossed!

Good luck...

Cool so did they give you clomid even though they thought you were ovulating?

So i could try and get my GP to do a SA for OH?

I'll ask them for copies of my results too then - thanks so much

I'm currently waiting on an app. for specialist and was told to have my bloods done and hubby to have SA done before we go. If you don't have this done before hand, apparently they'll ask for this at your first app. and then you'll have to wait on another app. before anything actually happens.

I think it just cuts out having to do this once you have been referred, saves time and speeds up the process so that we get our BFP sooner!!

Wishing you all the best hun

I've had my bloods done but it wasnt a positive result....they seemed to be too low for ovulation to be happening....should i ask them to do it again?

hey hun, i've just had my first appointment, and came out feeling really motivated, so defo worth going, and lots to look forward to!!!
Prior appt, i had 3 21-day bloods done, and DH had 2 SA done 3 months apart.

The consultant could see i was nervous, but she was sooooooo lovely and reassuring. I had a swabs taken, and that was it re tests. She said she wanted a day 2-6 hormone blood test from me, and another SA from DH. She's booked me in for a laparoscopy and dye test (10 weeks) then she's gonna start me on clomid. They do encourage DH's to attend as it's seen as a jont issue, regardless of whose plumbing is defunkt (in my case, it's mainly me, but a little bit of him)!!!!
I hope your appointment goes well, and take a list of questions, i had so many, forgot half of 'em!!!!

Thanks MRSF, thats really helpful

I will write a list of questions as i know i will forget loads

I've had a Lap and dye test done so at least thats out of the way....probably have to have bloods done again tho as they werent high enough to say i ovulated last time

:hugs:

Hi, I’m currently waiting for my first appointment with the fertility consultant at our local hospital. I had my bloods done in May and DH has to take in his sperm sample in next Thursday so the results are ready for our appointment. I defo think your DH should go with you, the first couple of times I went to my GP I went on my own and I don't think he took me very seriously, the 3rd time I went DH came with me and he made the referral there and then - I think it will defo help if he goes with you especially for support too. :hugs:

Thanks - i'll def take him with me.....he really wants to come so thats good :)
