First appt, I'm lost!

Not knowing what to do, I scheduled my appt with my normal doctor. Its this Monday and I'll be 5 weeks. Did anyone else do this or should I cancel and find an ob/gyn or Midwife? I don't want to wait for an appointment just be told I'm pregnant and then get sent home.

I called my GP first because I was on medication and needed to know if I should go off of it. My doctor told me to go off the medication and contact an OB/midwife, because she doesn't deal with pregnancy. Did you tell them the reason for the appointment? You can always call and ask what to do. I would start looking for an OB/midwife. The doctor might have a recommendation.

The first time I got pregnant i called my GP bc I didn't know any OBs, and I really liked my GP and thought she'd be able to recommend someone. They had me come in and did a urine pregnancy test (I don't know why) and then set up an OB appt for me with an OB she likes and one who took my insurance.

You can certainly call around and find an OB or midwife yourself though.

If it is similar in your area as mine, you will have your GP appointment to confirm pregnancy with a urine and/or blood test and then your GP will refer you to a OB or midwife. Then you will have your first OB/MW appointment around 8 weeks unless there are complications, then it will be earlier. At your 8 week appointment the OB will just ask you a million questions about medical history, take a bunch of blood for tests, and set up a dating ultrasound to see how far long you are.
