Gagging is normal when you're first starting out. But if he's being sick right after I might hold off for a bit.

And to whoever said that pushing food out with their tongue isn't a sign of not being ready, that's not true at all. It's called the tongue thrust reflex and is the FIRST thing to go by when deciding whether to wean or not.
 
Gagging is completely normal it's to prevent choking. Also rusks should not be give til 6 months if you do give them (I've given Austin half of one once) as they contain gluten. All gluten should be avoided til 6 months.
