Flu Jab

Does anyone who's not pregnant or on the high risk and get it on NHS have the seasonal flu jab?

I'm debating whether or not to get it and not sure if it's worth paying out for or not

If your pregnant or high risk you can have it for free. If your none of the later and you dont work in healthcare then you dont really need it x

This.

Im pregnant and not having it :) - i havent had flu for nearly 6 years, im hoping just cause im pregnant that wont change haha x

I had mine yesterday..now my arm hurts :-(
If I wasn't high risk I wouldn't have it x

Eta: thats me personally, not saying anyone else shouldnt

Im high risk so get it free but even if i was not i would still get it as ive seen how ill it can make people but thats me going off personal experience x

I get it every year as I'm a carer to my husband. Carers get it on the NHS.

Plus I'm pregnant now anyway! Must book myself in- I keep forgetting.

We've all had it. Not high risk.

I've had flu a couple of times...once in recent memory...and it was absolutely horrendous and debilitating.

I spoke at length to my GP and friend health professional about it last year, and feel it is the right decision for us.

lyss and i get it every year, we're both high risk (her heart and my asthma)

not sure if id get it otherwise, tbh ive never seen anyone with flu and not looked into it much. x

I am getting it next week as I am my sons main carer. I wonder how many people just get a cold after the flu jab and just assume the jab made them ill? Colds are so common this time of year. Also, colds can be really nasty and I think some people mistake colds for flu and then say they have flu when they would really know if they had flu!

thought id have the only side effects i get from the flu jab is an arm that feels like its been punched and a fever.
nothing scary lol x

I get it due to mild asthma, though I've not had a problem with my asthma for about 10 years! My doctors still give it to me. I don't complain obviously, it's only a little scratch & your arm feels a bit numb afterwards, I've never had any other major side effects from it.
I know a few people that pay for it even though they don't need it, I don't blame them I'd rather a numb arm for the day than the flu!!

Got a letter today offering it to me as i'm apparently ''high risk''. Totally confused me as didn't realise I was . GP receptionist couldn't work out why I was so I politely declined.
Hubby's a consultant at the hospital so had his as he's front line.

Does anyone know what the youngest they give it to children is? My son gets really ill every winter and ends up in hospital from what starts as a small cold and moves to his chest very quickly..And ends up with Bronchitus..And he doesn't manage to shift and I dread to think what would happen if it was something more than a cold :/ He's got suspected asthma and is on an inhaler but said they don't properly diagnose it until they're around 10? Would they still contact me to consider him high risk or would I need to talk to them about it?

I've had it done. I've only had flu once but it was during my last pregnancy and I really wouldn't want to go through that again!

I didn't know it was available for children?

I know my cousin has them as she has severe asthma that got passed down from her Dad (my uncle) and our grandad but she's now 10..I had a look on the NHS website and it says it's given to children 6 months up if they're considered high risk so I'll have a talk to my GP about it at my next appointment and see what she says

We had our girls done privately...I think it's next year / 2014 the gvt will be offering it to all over 2s via nasal spray. There are several reasons why we decided to vaccinate, but I fully understand its a personal decision.

I will have a chat with my gp then as Lily is prone to a very bad wheeze when she has a cold. Would get her vaccinated in a heartbeat if they provide it.

^^ that's what worries me about Lizzie, it's like colds go to her chest and she coughs away :(

Some think I am being ridiculous, but they are people that 'have flu' about three times a year...I.e. a cold! I don't think they either have had proper flu or can remember what it's like. Urghhhhh. Horrid.

I agree, I cant say I have ever had flu!

If your concerned about a child it cant harm to ask xx
