Have just booked my appointment for Saturday morning but am still in 2 minds. What are your thoughts on it and will you be having it done? X

I was offered it today, not sure, but I am leaning towards not getting it done

i am definately having it. i asked my consultant and he said they had quite a few pregnant women in intensive care last year with flu. our immune systems are lower and there is the chance we could get serious complications which could harm us and baby.

the vaccine wil not necessarily stop you getting flu but it will be less severe if you do. it will also pass protection on to the baby to stop them getting ill once they are born.

the vaccine does not contain the live virus so it can't give you flu by getting it and i understand levels of mercury are now fairly negligible.

I am def having it too. Actually i am even tempted to go to to the doctor right now as my OH has just caught a cold. Already had one and def don't want to deal with that again.

I'm getting it for sure the risks are much higher of getting sick if u don't get vaccinated

I am not getting the flu vaccine as I am allergic to it and the last time I got it I was severely sick for months. It is documented in my medical charts that I am allergic to it aswell. I think that it is better for the baby in my case not to get it, as it makes me so sick. We will just have to take extra precautions and be careful once little one is born. (She/ he is due FEB 25.) I have only gotten the flu once since the two years I have not had the shot, and even at that it was mild.

I am booked in to get it next week.
Have had it for years due to asthma and having read about increased risk of complications and serious illness with flu for preg ladies and the effect that could have on LO I have decided to go for it.
Also I work in a large college so don't want to chance it.

Thanks ladies. Sorry if this is a stupid q but should I let them know I'm preg(obv theyll have it on my notes but is there a diff vaccine for preg ladies or is it the one type for everyone? X

I'm getting it. I would never forgive myself if I got swine flu or even a bad dose of regular flu and it harmed the baby. The vaccine is perfectly safe and I've yet to meet a medical professional who has advised against getting it.

im not getting mine done, but its a choice only you can make :hugs:

Im getting mine - all booked in for October. Have been getting it every year and have not had any probs and have certainly not been ill while most people around me have! Also, both hubby and i work in environments where we are likely to pick up germs and illnesses and the last thing id want is to pass something nasty to baby or to hubby and vice versa. He's getting it too btw!

I just got mine and actually posted a thread not too long ago because I was concerned with the themerosal in the injections, but I was able to speak to my NP and she put my mind at ease. :)

Everything I've read or heard says to ignore the whole "take fewer medications when pregnant, etc." when it comes to the flu vaccine, especially for H1N1. Swine flu DISPROPORTIONATELY (6% as opposed to 1% of the population) takes the lives of pregnant women and their babies. Get your vaccine if you can, because it can mean life or death if you catch the flu. Read up here:

I don't believe in certain vaccines to be honest and some of them can make you sick in the future/have an impact on the baby in his/her future life. I'm not having one done, I know how to take care of myself - eat loads of fruits and vegs full of vitamins, walk outside a lot, don't get too cold and drink at least 2L of water a day :) keeps all viruses away!

The healthiest person can still come down with flu.

I don't think I will be having it, didn't have it with my son and I was pregnant throughout winter then too. x
