i have been mulling this one over in my head since reading a couple of threads about the price of formula milk in light of the fact that the price has recently increased
i have said before, i genuinely dont think formula milk is expensive - and i dont mean in relation to anyones income, i mean i dont think it is expensive

lots of people have said its disgusting etc that it costs so much, but i have to ask, it costs so much in relation to what?

you cannot compare cows milk that we drink and formula -formula is the babies food, cows milk is not our food

i have 3 children and Lana is by far the cheapest one to 'feed' - and i dont even make up formula i use ready made

i am only asking as i cant understand why people consider formula to be expensive at all, i have thought it through over and over and i just cant see it

I read the earlier posts and took it to be that folk were moaning about the price increase - rather than the actual costs of formula.

An increase from £7.90 to £8.49 is a huge 7.5% - way above inflation levels.

But I certainly do agree that an £8 tub of formula feeding your baby for a week is very cheap!!!:flower:

What makes me mad is not the actual price, but the fact that there is not allowed to be any competition or offers on it. In the current climate most of us need to save a few quid where we can, and it makes me mad that there is not allowed to be any competition and that the sale price is unlikely to bear any resemblance to the cost of making it.

i think here in Canada its a bit more expensive its about $30 for a good name brand. I have not opinion in this as i have not had to buy it yet just thought i should let you know

I suppose I see it as expensive as I had my heart set on BF which is free :D However, I'm not too fussed now I have to buy it :)

But, my sister has about £40 a week for petrol and food for herself and 2 kids and if she didn't have her daughters milk on prescription (she is lactose intolerant) I can see that £8.50 would be a killer for her :)

Just did an interesting search on the web, with reference to special offers and supermarkets discounts. There is no price war competition allowed for Formulas due to the Government ruling on breast feeding
