Frey is pissed that Robb didn't honor his agreement to marry one of Frey's daughters so the wedding to Roslin is really a set-up to get Robb and his army drunk and then kill them. The plan works, almost everyone is massacred, including Robb and Catelyn. And Robb's wolf's head gets sewn to his body. And the northern rebellion is over

Yup. When I read the books I was in shock, I couldnt believe they'd just killed Rob off like that! and then catelyn too(Which i actually didnt mind lol) didn't see that one coming.
