Game of Thrones!

I liked the name Arya too, my concern was she'd spend her life spelling it to people. :)

Just caught up on this weeks. Holy shi...

The thing was I knew he was for it because I read as much but it was pretty damn brutal. On the brightside I don't have to feel bored by his story anymore. :) The worst bits were with Arya and Rickon - baby Starks all alone in the world.

But where the hell is my lovely Jaime?

I'll bet by the time our LOs are school age, there'll be a lot of little Aryas and Dannys. :D

Just watched this weeks...wow, I've never screamed during a t.v show before. Even my OH nearly cried! I'm still in shock.

I knew what was coming so I wasn't shocked. I did find his wife's murder quite brutal and I wanted to hug them when he was lying holding her. I HATED Cat Stark! So I am glad shes gone, I'm glad she took Walder Freys wife with her though, just for good measure! I said to OH last night I do wonder if the Starks will eventually win out. Area maybe? Or Sansa? Simply because I'm not sure how much worse things can get for them...
Looking forward to next week as long as it goes how I'm hoping!

Me too :cry::cry::cry:

Was so shocked! I mean why?!?!?

Anyone else find the reaction on facebook funny?

CarlyP: I don't think there's a why, that's why the books and TV show are so good, you can't depend on storytelling conventions, it does move the story along.

He was talking to us...

Okay, I'm here!

Anyone else excited for the Gay of Thrones recap this week? :haha:

What is this?!?!

How soon can we actually start talking about this?! I'm dying to.

Without spoiling, I have to say one of the things that I love about this series is the way that it refuses to subscribe to convention, ie there's no tidy moral satisfaction to a lot of events or choices that characters make; it doesn't pretend life is fair or pretty, heroes don't always manage to be heroes, and in fact it is becoming pretty hard to tell who is meant to be 'good guys' and 'bad guys'; the guy doesn't always get the girl and evil deeds are not always avenged.

I agree with this.

I wasn't shocked by the scene because I knew what was coming, but I did not find it devestating. I don't really think the Starks are all that admirable.

I wrote this in a facebook argument and it sums it up nicely:

On a serious note, because I take the politics of Westeros very seriously, I think the Starks been viewed as "good guys" is very much a case of the winners writing history. Why should Theon show them any loyalty? They killed his brothers. While they were kind to him, he was still a HOSTAGE and they sure as shit would have killed him had his father tried to rebel again. What did they owe him? The Starks have killed a lot of people, too. Robb's rebellion isn't really any different than Balon's. He's broken several oaths. Yes, many of these betrayals were motivated by love, but how is that somehow more honorable than the motivation of family loyalty? He's started a war. He's not some great guy. In season 3 he beheads Rickard, which in actually is no different than the scene in season 2 when Theon beheads Rodrik - it's just cleaner and more valiantly executed.

I completely forgot that the uncle went out to pee!

I hope Arya is the one that gets her revenge on Jeoffrey :)

I don't think Joffrey has any redeeming qualities at all... and yet, he's still around. :haha:

Whoever ends up killing him will be my favourite character. I'll probably stand up and cheer.

:haha: Great point!

The writer himself has said he doesn't want to write predictable fiction. I think the Starks' situation is pretty Shakespearean; Ned Stark, a well-loved nobleman who, has his faults, but is a good man... is killed off in the first season of the show. Surely since Ned has been beheaded, his family has been through enough and things will eventually tip in their favour. Wrong again; Cat and Robb are murdered, along with his wife and their unborn (Ned Stark if the child was a boy). Arya arrives too early at the Frey's to miss out on the horrific events and has to watch some of it, unable to do anything about it. But they were late enough that her life is spared. (I think she'll head off to Braavos soon, now that her mother and Robb have been killed).

Sansa's priority early on was to get married and have a fairy tale life. She got her wedding, to a Lannister at that, and gets to live in King's Landing, but the Lannister she was forced to marry was much older than her- and they don't love each other, even though they're both decent people.

Bran is paralyzed in one of the first episodes.

I wonder how things will pan out for the surviving Starks in the future though? Or how long they'll be kept around.

I'm really curious about Baelish's speech near the end of a couple episodes back. I wonder what it could be foreshadowing?

As for who kills Joffrey, I think it'll be one of the Tyrells- they've seen how cruel and awful he is, and rather than having Margaery get stuck with him... I don't know, her grandmother seems to be pretty smart and unaffected by the Lannisters' wealth, and seems to dislike them to boot.

It's up! Going to watch it now...

I almost never watched GoT, it was a show my grandma was into so I thought it must surely be boring. Glad I gave it a go!

Haha, you must have a pretty cool grandma!

She's cooler than me! She rocks her iPad and iPhone and has a PS3. I think she only got it as a blu-ray player but still, even my mum doesn't know how to use one haha.

I'm still in shock over the last episode, I think it was the stabbing of a pregnant lady. I thought I was gonna spew. I've turned into such a wimp since I've had kids.

Have you all watched the reaction compilation for Sunday's episode.

DO NOT WATCH if you have not watched Sunday's episode.

But this was totally me :p
