Ok I know this sounds stupid but I missed and injection the other day and on the same meal McDonalds (bad I know) I got a better result than with the insulin so have no idea what is going on. I also got a better fasting result. I am due a scan on Wednesday and will also see the consultant but just wondering what the hell is going on can anyone help please ????

I had GD through the last tri of my pregnancy... and I never needed insulin but my numbers were always screwy! Sometimes they would be high when I didn't eat any carbs or sugar and sometimes they would be low when I just pigged out!! Really weird!

It really didn't affect my baby at all though! She was healthy and I was healthy! I don't think missing your insulin is going to affect anything! But I'd be curious to see what your dietician says! I had 2 different ones.. the first one was like HITLER and I really hated her... and the 2nd one was super nice and was a lot more relaxed about everything!

I find if I'm out and about... Moving doing stuff my levels are low and if I'm lethargic and lazy my levels are high.. But after macca's my levels are always low.. Spoke to my MW about it and she suggested maybe because of the high sugar levels in Macca's and all the other stuff it digests slowly in my system.. like food is supposed to do :haha:

There is a lot that affects sugar levels though doctors often say it is insulin and food - certainly the amount you exercise, the type of food you eat and even your hormones and illnesses can afect sugar levels as can stress, so it is very hard to say for sure what is going on. You may be on too little insulin or you may have had a more active day that day or you may have been less stressed.

What are you rlevels like when you do not take the insulin? Usually when changing insulin doses you need readings over at least a week to compare things to so you can see trends.

I'm diet controlled but was told when I had a surprisingly high reading (shredded wheat would you believe) that being more active for half an hour would bring that down. Sure enough my next reading was 5.something.

Also, is McDonalds that sugary? Obviously the white bread and fries could be better but other than ketchup I don't see any pure sugars in there. Not that I want to encourage you to eat McDonalds all the time but my diabetic consultant said a lot of this is trial and error - if that's true, you've struck it lucky!
