Gender Scan, when is too soon?

I have read 20 weeks is the optimal time to have a gender scan. My scan is set for Sept 20th and I will be exactly 18 weeks. Will I be far enough along to tell the sex? I can't remember how far along I was when I found out with my daughters, it has been a long time LOL

Hi Tiffanie, I'm having a gender scan on 18th Sept and I'll be just over 18 weeks. They say you can have the scan any time after 16 weeks but I think the longer you wait, the more accurate it will be. 18 weeks should be fine

I also read that it can be done from 16 weeks. I think 18 weeks will be far enough along to see. If it is a private scan they do say if they can't see enough they'll rebook you xx

Its usually 16 weeks and a few days the earliest.

I was 16+3 got told i was having a boy ... had another private scan said boy and my 20 week scan i was told boy

i have a private scan next saturday and 4D 5th october so ill ask then but i doubt 3 scans can be wrong lol

I found out at 17 weeks on the do about our baby boy. I have a 20 week scan in mid sept anyway though.

I had one at 16+4 and it was so obviously a boy. Most private places say they can tell from 16 weeks but the longer you leave it, the more accurate it is. We had our 20 week scan and they confirmed he is still a boy!

I think its much easier to tell with boys than girls tho x

We are getting our scan on Sept 16th and I will be just over 19 weeks.

im getting mine tomo at 16+1 and all the woman said was make sure i have a very full blader so they can see properly

sometimes you can tell at 16wks, i went for an ultra sound at 16wks and they couldn't tell, then I went for one at 19wks and she was clearly able to see that it's a girl.
also you have to take into consideration the postion of the baby, I had to lay on my side so that the baby could move so she can see between the legs, some babies are stubborn and won't move there legs for you to see.

anyway you should be okay if you're going at 18 wks.

Thanks Ladies I appreciate all the feedback. I "think" found out at 16 weeks with my 1st daughter, but I can't remember its been almost 13 years I hope all of your scans go well too.

I was 18 weeks with my daughter, and the sonographer was so certain it was a girl she said she would buy a boys layette for me if she turned out to be wrong.

had mine today at 16 weeks + 1 day they said it was 80% cetain it was a girl but they couldnt see any boy bits so depends how sure you want to be !

I had my private gender san yesterday, and was told a girl. She was very clear and even gave me a 4d image, was very good and certain it was a girl. Im 17 weeks but scan but me back to 16 plus 3 ! TEAM PINK AGAIN, 3 girls my poor OH. X

I had mine at 17 weeks and confirmed at NHS scan at 20 weeks x
