General anaesthetic?

Does anyone know what the guideline is on having a GA and bfing?

I may need a D&C in the next few days for a MMC and wasn't sure how long I should withhold boob for afterwards
My boy only feeds twice a day at the mo (nursing strike!)

I dont know for sure but id think you can bf pretty much straight away. When I had lo the lady opposite had a c-section under ga and they helped her bf as soon as she got on the ward.

I had an ERCP post natally with DS. I was allowed to breastfeed as soon as I was able to. OH had given him a bottle whilst I was in theatre so it was a while until he wanted to nurse.

With my ERCP in the summer it was a few hours until DS wanted to nurse again.

I'd make sure to tell the anesthetist you are breastfeeding as it may affect the choices of the painkilling drugs they give you when are under. I think most people tend to assume that if you're pregnant/miscarrying or even just that your child is older than 6 months that you will no longer be breastfeeding.

Thanks! They've slotted me in as an emergency now, I'm just waiting to go down. Might not get home in time to give ds his night feed if he's too tired to wait up. Good to know its ok if he's still awake tho!
