General chatter while we wait (and commentary on the "pull out method")

Gigs just sent a request to join!

Sorry I’ve been MIA. Hubs finished the unpaid training yesterday. He’ll find out within a week if he did well enough on his final exam to go to the paid training.

Shae i don’t see a request but maybe I’m just slow lol. I’ll check from the pc tomorrow.

Ooooh fingers so tightly crossed for hubby!!!

Thanks ladies! I figured it out and added you both ^_^ I’ll have to post the link in the testing thread as well later. Hoping it doesn’t come to that but I don’t like the way this website has been going…makes me nervous

any news yet shae on hubby?
Ugh the forum thing is driving me nuts. They've had the same message up for over a week which makes me wonder if anyone is actually looking into things. I sent a help report but who knows if it actually went to anyone.

Baby's kicking like crazy now! hubby's felt some big ones. I had my 24 week appt on Friday and I am HUGE. I mean I've gained like almost 30lbs this pregnancy!! That's horrible!!!! I'm on track to gain like I did my first pregnancy and I absolutely do not want to do that (I was miserable by delivery time; huge, swollen, waddling...) but I do also just tend to gain weight when I'm pregnant, against my will lol. But this is a little outrageous. I've reeled it in the past couple of days and hope that I don't gain much more from here. My goal is to keep it under a lb a week the rest of the pregnancy. I definitely have plenty of room for improvement in my diet. Hubby and I just went absolutely crazy with food over the holidays and then pretty much though my youngest's birthday this past month. But he's currently doing a fast (he's on day 8 -- no food; he does this a couple times a year or so) to kick start his healthier eating. Obviously I can't do anything drastic like that so just trying to make smarter food choices and keeping track of what I'm eating (calorie-wise). I think I can keep it at about 1500-1600 cals a day maybe even up to 1800, and maintain just fine. Honestly I just need to not eat as much sugar. I have a very big sweet tooth, plus an aversion to some proteins right now (like steak, which I usually love) so it's been a challenge and I haven't been making an effort to find healthy alternatives. But I'm in the right mindset now so we'll see!

Gigs I’m no doctor but I’d be very careful about restricting calories that much (like to 1500-1600) in pregnancy. I’m currently eating 1800 calories a day and losing about a lb a week. Everyone’s metabolism is different of course, but you wouldn’t want to restrict calories so much that it slows down baby’s weight gain, so please be careful! Also holy crap, your DH is on 8 days without food? I’d be a raging bitch on day 2, I don’t know how anyone can do that! Props to him for that discipline.

No news yet on the job front. We got a call after he finished the tests that he should know by the end of this week.

His record is 12 days 0_0 I'm not sure how long he'll go this time, he didn't set a goal. After than he will be eating fermented foods to slowly get things back online (i.e. his digestive tract) with some probiotics in the mix.
I did a 3 day fast before and it was rough but I felt like a superhero on day 4. I just felt better and sharper minded, I don't know how to describe it. It was rewarding. I did it a second time but I did a "dirty fast", i.e. I had some broth and tea, and didn't benefit as much. But there are definitely benefits. Actually one of hubby's coworker's has a wife with long term health issues and he had a whole discussion with her about fasting. She did her own research and decided to try it. She loved it. Now she does one day fasts once a week and reports that she has been feeling much better since starting that routine. I don't think it's necessarily for everyone, but it's worth looking into and trying if desired.

I will say personally day 2 is always rough for me due to headaches.

1600-1800 calories is pretty typical for me when eating "normally", if I diet I have to eat less than than to see any weight loss (plus exercise). And even then sometimes the scale just doesn't budge. I really don't eat that much, honestly it's probably why it's hard for me to lose weight. My metabolism isn't super slow but definitely on the slower side. We'll see how things shake out after baby but maybe I need to try "reverse dieting" -- it's when you slowly, very slowly, increase your calorie intake so your body adjusts to that amount. When you cut back down to what you normally eat, you see weight loss. Another thing to research but obviously nothing I need to worry about right now!

Gigs okay, that makes more sense, but just be aware that docs recommend an extra 300-500 calories per day during the second and third trimesters. Baby steals some of those calories! That said, you’ll probably know by how you feel if you need more.

Ugh I just wish I knew how to speed up my metabolism so I didn't have to worry about it too much about food intake. Anyways I'm trying to be more intentional about what I eat (although I definitely failed yesterday......oops) and see where I'm at by my next appointment. I can better adjust from there.

Did I tell y'all my uterus is measuring about 2 weeks ahead as well? My scan was fine so dr isn't worried but goodness....I knew I felt huge this time & like everything is much higher up! 'cause it is!

Gigs I feel that, I used to be able to eat as much as I wanted, I actually at one point tried to put together a meal plan to help me gain weight when I was in high school. Based on my rate of weight loss, it does look like I still can eat over 2,000 calories a day to maintain my weight, I’ve just been consuming a lot of liquid calories and high calorie foods, so I’ve been eating like 2,500 calories a day (prior to the diet). So my metabolism isn’t actually slow, I just really love food and my metabolism used to be *insanely* fast and could accommodate my love of food

It’s ovulation day and my brain for a split second was like “would I have sex with DH’s best friend? He has good reviews from women, so… yes?” and then I was like “wtf” and then remembered I’m ovulating and have zero control over my thoughts related to sex at the moment. I told DH about it and he laughed, he said he’ll never hold my thoughts against me, only my actions. Thank god for a man who understands ovulation brain (it helps that he’s seen how I jump him during ovulation, it’s a significant change from normal and he can always tell I’m fertile by my sudden crazy increased sex drive).

DH is refusing to BD with me today because his “knee hurts”. I offered ways around the hurting knee, but he refused. As I am ovulating, this is an unforgivable offense and I am going to mope now (ignore the fact that we had sex last night). I literally just turn into a psycho when I’m ovulating, I swear… but knowing that I’m hormonal and somewhat irrational will not stop me from being hormonal and somewhat irrational.

Unsure where you live, but you’re in the USA right? I recommend Optimum Nutrition Casein powder in the Supreme Chocolate. I used to make it with some coconut milk for a little different flavor or use almond milk. If you put the protein powder in a bowl slowly adding the milk using a whisk, you can catch the right consistency for a nice pudding instead of doing a smoothie. I love that at night! The Casein is a slow acting protein so your body will enjoy it through the night. Plus you may not feel aversion as with meats and satisfies a sweet tooth. 24g of protein for 120 calories.
Just a fun way I used to enjoy it. Oh and i’d add a little fat free cool whip on top with some dark chocolate shaving or mini chips!!! Mmm!!
