Hi Ladies, wondering if any of you in the UK have any experiences of making first contact with your GP about TTC?

We were NTNP november 2012 and I had a MMC, we've been trying ever since and I had an eatly mc in November 2014.

So this February we'll have been actively trying for 2 years.

I am thinking it's time to see someone but don't want to waste my time if there's nothing they'll do. Before my 2 losses I had my son who's 4 this april and I did have a 28 day cycle but last month my cycle was 49 days long!

Would love to know what was discussed at your first appts and if you were referred or any tests done initially to work out what's wrong?

Thanks

Hannah xx

Hannah, you have been trying for over a year so your Dr. should start investigating what's going on right away. If they don't, go to another GP.

The first thing they'll probably do is blood tests on certain days of your next cycle to make sure that your hormone levels are correct (day 21 for progesterone - you might have to have a few of these if your cycles are not regular and day 2-4 I think for something else, but I can't remember what this one was for), and your OH will have to give a sample for sperm count (they look at number, motility, direction etc.). Your Dr. will also want to take a good medical and reproductive history of the pair of you and ask you a few questions about your lifestyle (smoking, alcohol, diet etc.) to see if that throws anything up.

We have found our GP, nurses, infertility specialist etc. through the NHS (Scotland) to be very supportive and proactive at moving our LTTTC journey on. We were referred to a specialist right away due to the length of time we had been TTC.

Don't wait any longer - go see your GP! We were TTC for 2 years before going for help, and I feel like we wasted all that time trying when it was actually impossible for us to conceive back then. I wish we'd gone for help earlier.

Good luck.

Wow, thanks! What a lovely positive post. Thanks so much for that info. I will make a Dr's appt ASAP. Fingers x'd!

Xxxx
