Benefits? Giving up work...

Hi

I currently work 2 days and my mum has my daughter one day and my mum in law the other.
Ive just had a huge bust up with my mum...she does this from time to time and its not going to blow over quickly.

Im now worried as if I put my daughter into nursery on the day my mum used to have her...it means most of my salary if not all will go meaning is it worth me working when its all gone on that?

If I had to give up work, would I be entitled to any benefits??

Hubby earns £38k - sounds a lot but we own our house and have debt attached to my mother.....long story!

I think you would be entitled to something. I thik the upper cap is £42K.

What about looking into a childminder instead- they are usually cheaper.

you may get around £10 a week in tax credits and you should (already) get child benefit. But thats it. we earn 17000 a year (well my oh does) and we only get tax credits and child benefit (although tax credits is at a higher amount )

I am sure the threshold is around £36,000 so it is unlikely you would get anything...:flower:

I think you will really stuggle to get anything.

V xx

You wouldn't get much. I dint know if you already get tax credit but you would get £10 pw and your child benefit.

You won't get JSA or anything if you are willingly giving up work xx

This table may help:

I have recently been investigating as I doubt I will return to work once number 2 is born. At the moment my MiL looks after Emma but she won't be able to look after 2....

Dont think you'll get much, What about becoming a childminder? Then you'd be at home...
