3 months is all you get? Come to Australia, we get 12 months off & the govt gives us 18 weeks paid leave

We get 12 months in the uk too, with pay for 39 weeks. It's not mega bucks but its enough

My sister missed out on a bunch of smp because of the hosp changing her due date by ONE DAY. Like you say they could at least change it for you for an official letter and then they could always change it back later!! Edd is quite a fluid thing anyway
