Hard-working, I also agree. They really should change the legislation in the UK, im so glad I brought the private test but there are others that dont bother. Best £35 ive spent this week! Just read that link you posted, I hope the committee take it as a serious screening and give the all clear to having the test done as standard. The US do it routinely so it seems stupid that the UK dont follow suit.

Ticking.clock, I guess our hospital policies are slightly different in the amount of time you have to stay. My mw said two days but I guess its down to the L&D department . Also same as you, I need the AB 4 hours before birth. No messing when our waters break or contractions start, mw said phone up labour ward asap x

Absolutely agree Inoue - private tests are great as long as you know they're available and can afford the £35. Should be offered routinely, free of charge, on the NHS!

Ditto. There's no excuses why we dont do it. The UK is one of the top countries in the world for medical procedures and knowledge, this should of been sorted out years ago. I guess we should look at it that were blessed we made the effort to find out so we can be treated with a fab success rates, its the women who dont know that have the problems x

As it looks like were going to have a longer stay in hospital compared to other women, what extra stuff are you going to pack? Ive provisionally only got 15 nappies in my hospital bag but guess we will need double that, along with more clean clothes for us and baby x

I'm also GBS+ after having a LVS done for suspected thrush (which I didn't have! and I found out via my midwife on the day the private test I'd already ordered came through!) and have also been told a 2 day minimum stay. As for packing, well I'm taking 25 nappies, 4 different outfits for baby and extra snacks for me. Plus 10 pairs of disposable knickers and 20 maternity pads. Might be an idea to buy some canesten cream as well just in case the IV's give you thrush!

Im also planning to pack the same, will also pack another set of clothes for me and more cotton wool balls to clean baby. DH will be sent home for the nights (hospital policy) so at least he can get extra supplies if/when needed x

hey hun dont stress and dont google it makes everything worse...

i was strep b positive, iwas given antibiotics in labour and everything was fine the risk is small and the fact you know is great, so so so many woman carry step b and dont even know it at all, so atleast u can be given the antibiotics

please dont google, i had my dd 2 years ago then was diagnoised with maligment melanoma (skin cancer) i googed it all and yes i wrote my will!

Also i was out the next day after birth the 1st 24 hours were full of checks every hour then every 2 ect but i was home 30 hours after birth xxx

Don't worry hun. It seems a lot scarier than it actually is. You and baby will be fine since they have picked it up xXx

Absolutely, as Sethsmummy says, because you know about it, you can have the preventative antibiotics in labour and these are hugely effective at stopping group B Strep infections. It's when you don't know anything about it at all but are carrying group B Strep that it's really scarey.
