Hiya

So I am having a c section and this eve we went to have a look at the theatre. While we were there I asked about contact lenses as I wear mine for 30 days including sleep then change. The pair of glasses I have are old prescription and make me feel sick and give me headache so I cant wear them. The midwives etc didnt see a problem but one of I think theatre staff or something asked if I can remove them during procedure and to put them back in in recovery. I am gutted as I am v.blind without (cant see the A on screen at opticians!) So I am going to struggle to see my baby to start with. Lol.

I struggle to put my lenses in anyway so god knows how I will do it just after surgery!

Xx

I got new lenses put in my glasses just in case I wasn't allowed to wear my contacts or I went into labor while I was sleeping! But I hate wearing glasses! And I am not looking forward to looking even worse after labor when people want to take pictures. I'm gonna tell them to wait till I put my contacts in, haha!

Lol. I would get new lenses put in but would cost £40 approx to have lenses swapped and then would have to pay for the lenses and to have thinned which is at least £60. Unless win lotto.cant afford to get them done :( otherwise I wouldnt mind wearing my glasses. Lol. Xx

Yeah it was $333 for me, including the eye exam. Admittedly, my mom had to pay for it. -___- But at least now I will be able to see my baby! I am so blind without my contacts or glasses. :(

That really sucks! You'll have to think of it this way.. you'll see baby as well as baby will see you in the first moments.. heh. Seriously though it does suck. I doubt I'll be able to see through my tears of joy/stress myself while having my section so I'll probably be seeing some fuzzy looking babies too! :)

I know it sounds bad...but I'm the same as you, I'm so blind that my glasses hurt my eyes, I literally can't live without my contacts...so I said to my Mum that if I did end up having to have an emergency c-section, I wouldn't tell them I had my contacts in unless something happened that meant they have to put me under general anaesthetic, then my Mum could tell them lol. It's bad I know but they I'm sure they only say it in case you need to get put under, because they might dry out....but if yours are 30 day continuous ones, I don't see why you would have to take them out?

why can you not wear contacts just out of interest?

Sorry for sounding dumb but not sure what difference it would make as if its a planned section you are awake and aware of whats going on anyway

Oh dear! That's why we opticians tell our contact lens patients always to have a pair of glasses they can see with (and are not ashamed to be seen in) for back up! Tut tut...

;)

The midwives etc didnt see a problem as I sleep in them but it was one other person. Hoping it will be different on the day. He said something about abrasions?!!

Thanks Tampa. My optician said my old prescription are okay to wear with how my prescription is at the moment but I have tried wearing them a couple of months ago when I lost my lens and they made me feel sick and gave me a headache, I felt drunk and I dont fancy feeling like this in theatre as I will be feeling rough enough with the surgery I am sure. Unfortunately not everyone can afford to keep up glasses and contact lenses especially when I have to pay at least £60 with how thick my lenses now need to be :(

xx

I think you do have to remove contact lenses when having any kind of surgery, I had to when I had my EPRC...I also hate wearing my specs...makes me feel dizzy etc!
It was an early morning op so I arrived in my specs and then popped them back in as soon as I was feeling better after awaking from the general anaesthetic.
Good luck with the C Section!!!

Thanks. I have heard of a lot of people not needing to remove them. I will be awake during the procedure. I am going to literally take them out before getting onto the bed and then will attempt to put them back in in recovery but probably will fail or lose one as I am rubbish at doing it!!! :haha:

Why dont you just not tell them?
I dont intend on telling them :) xx

Lmao. Hubby suggested that last night. The other staff didnt see a problem and it may be different for the people who will be in surgery that day. Tbh I sometimes forget I have them in as I am so used to them now. I sleep and live in them for 30 days and then change and so on. :D

xx

I forgot I had my lenses in when I had gastric bypass surgery. It was about a 3 hour operation and I had no problems. I wear the 30 day continuous lenses. But to be honest I've had this last pair in for about 3 months. I have extremely watery eyes which keeps them moist. I get my eyes checked every 2 months and the optician says it's looks like I've just put a new pair in when really I've had them in for months.

I would just wear them and not say anything. If your going to be awake anyway what's the problem.

Yeah, it might be different then if its not under general anaesthetic. If you have someone in the room with you, train them to pop your lenses back in asap!

Thanks ladies. Maryziz my hubby will be with me but I wouldnt trust him to not poke me in the eye and he doesnt like watching me put them in as it is so I doubt he could do it :D He is lucky as he doesnt have to wear glasses or contacts!!!

xx
