Just got back from first appt at the clinic.

Last year I had 6 cycles worth of blood done by my gp and was told all was ok - the consultant said today that my progesterone levels were never higher than 23.3 and they need to be 30 to show ovulation so I haven't been ovulating. I thought I was cos of my temps/cm/ov tests but he said that the ov tests show that my pituitary gland is working and is getting everything ready for ovulation hormonally - just that my ovaries aren't releasing the egg.

He wants me to have another 3 months worth of bloods done to see where we are now which means more time passing by

And another thing - hubby's sperm results showed a high count but he said they are lazy which means only 24% of them will bother to do anything instead of the 50% mark that they like to see.

Basically neither of us work properly but he seems to think it is stuff that can be sorted with time.

I know I should be taking the positives out of this but I just can't stop crying

he said 30 to show ovulation?? where do you live???

Sorry it didn't go how you hoped hun :hugs:

Are you able to see another Dr? Seems a long time to wait if they know for sure that your not ov'ing.

xx

here is what most dr's in the US go by
Progesterone (P4) 7 dpo > 15 ng/ml A progesterone test is done to confirm ovulation. When a follicle releases its egg, it becomes what is called a corpus luteum and produces progesterone. A level over 5 probably indicates some form of ovulation, but most doctors want to see a level over 10 on a natural cycle, and a level over 15 on a medicated cycle. There is no mid-luteal level that predicts pregnancy. Some say the test may be more accurate if done first thing in the morning after fasting.

I'm in the UK. I don't know if they have a different scale to the US that is used. All I know is my highest progesterone level was 23.3 on day 21 and he said it should have been at least 30 xx

hm when I was 4 weeks pregnant mine was 24.4.. which is normal at 4 weeks... I'm guessing maybe they do have a different scale... I am sorry hun that it didn't go so well

In the UK the progesterone level is measured on a different scale to the USA. It's definitely a level of 30 they like to see here.

Did you have your blood taken 7DPO or on CD21? You probably already know this, but it needs to be 7DPO so obviously CD varies depending on when in your cycle you ovulate.

I hope they help get things on track for you :flower:

I'm so sorry it didn't go to plan Hun,I had one day 21 blood test done in feb,the doctor said al was fine.I asked for the results in writing and moved docs straight away as my prog was only 2.7 my new doc is now doing more bloods for the fs to see and fs had some done last month.wots with our doctors nowadays, how is it all fine in their eyes xx

Thanks Foxy. It was CD21 which should be 7DPO if I were ovulating!! My temp charts and ov tests have led me to believe I've been ovulating on day 13 or 14 for the last year or more! nice to know i've been wasting a fortune on clearblue digital ov tests cos i wanted the most reliable ones!!

That is terrible!!! I have a great relationship with my doctor and thought I could trust what I was told - obviously not :nope:

I loved my doctor,so understanding and I always felt at ease.tbh Im not to sure they know to much about fertility.my new one has said that after all my research I've been doing that I know more about it then them and that's why we get refered to fs.at the end of this month if it shows that I still don't o then I'm gonna see if the doc wants to prescribe me something and by pass the fs until dec when my second appointment is xx

When he said it doesn't look like i've been ovulating i thought i'd get prescribed clomid - but instead its 3 months of bloods, a tubal blockage test just to check them out and a post-coital test which sounds gross :(

I didn't think they did post coital tests anymore! I don't think it's commonly done.

Hopefully if your next lot of bloods show you're not o'ing, then you'll get some meds.

Getting a HSG is also good, that'll be one less test to have later down the line if you don't get your bfp in the meantime :)

I think in the UK they like to do all those tests before the clomid because you only get a limited number of tries on clomid so they want to rule out other issues before putting you on it.

I have to tell you that you almost definitely were ovulating, you just have low progesterone.
I ovulated several times (confirmed by BBT, OPKs and even a follicle scan one cycle) but each and every time I didn't hit the level they like to see (I was above 5 but below 10 on every cycle and in the US they like to see at least a 10, usually prefer to see a 15). I didn't get pregnant until I finally got my level high enough with a higher dose of clomid.

I know some doctors say you haven't ovulated at all if your progesterone doesn't get high enough, but its not true. Some women can successfully conceive even with low progesterone, and some just can't seem to. The progesterone prepares the lining for implantation so I think some women's lining get prepared enough for implantation with the lower level and some women's lining just doesn't get there without the higher level of progesterone.

Hang in there. Hope this helps you some!

When I had my bloods done my Dr said they wanted to see over 20 to show ovulation but mine was only 3?? I wasnt told over 30.

I had heard that 20 was the expected level for a natural cycle in the UK, but that they preferred to see 30.
If you had a 3, then I'd say that shows either no ovulation, or perhaps that you didn't ovulate when they thought you did? If your cycle is longer than 28 days, then a day 21 test won't be the right day for you to get tested.

mrs lukey my doctor said exactly the same my levels where at 27 on my 21 day progesterone blood test and my doctor said they like them to be 30 or above i too am in the UK is this not the case then as my doc had upped my clomid from this month to 100 mg was previously on 50 mg for two months.x
