Hey all--

Hope all is well with everyone after Irene and this weekend.

So, I went to the doctor today and it looks like there's hope.... they saw 3 follicles forming already and said I'd be ovulated from the right side so they said to try this month. But, if it doesn't work, they said my lining looks good but they want to do a HSG (I think?) test after my next period where they insert a catheter into the cervix/uterus to make sure there is no blockage, though he doubts there is, it's just a standard test/next step in the process. Or so he said LOL. He thinks if anything it's just the age issue as I am 40, but he says and seemed very confident there are ways to try to combat that. I mean, I felt optimistic I had any follicle at all LOL. Next, is my husband's sperm analysis on Friday. Here's hoping.

Thanks so much for listening, I am kinda going through this alone, and don't do that well in unchartered territory so I truly appreciate this board and support.

Thanks!

-Dana

Hi Dana~
Please keep me posted on your HSG- I am on my 3rd month of Clomid- some success in ovulation but I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow to discuss other options. I have not had an ultrasound to see if I have follicles- should I ask my doc about this?
Congrats on the follies!

Hi there!!

I am not sure how much help I can be but the ultrasound he did was a vaginal ultrasound I believe? He said it was the first thing he does to all new patients. I was seeing him due to an elevated FSH. He was looking for cysts, tumors, problems I guess? Anyway, I was CD5 but he and his resident kept mentioning follicles so I finally asked why LOL and he said they saw 3 forming follicles and that I was going to ovulate from the right side this month. The ultrasound also showed them my uterus tilts back but they said that's typical/common/means nothing. So, he said the next step if I don't conceive this month is to test my FSH again on day 2 (he tests on day 2 with elevated FSH) and then the HSG test a couple days later. So, I'm not sure if you need to ask, as I assumed this ultrasound I had was pretty standard and you may have already had one before they put you on clomid? I am not sure. Like I said, this was my first visit ever to any RE about any of this so I am sorry I can't be more help but I think if it would make YOU feel better, I'd ask for them to do it!

Thanks so much for the reply and congrats! :) PLEASE keep me posted on your progress too and BEST of luck!

Thanks so much! I am seeing an OBGYN as opposed to a specialist- as it is the only way for my insurance to cover the costs. I should also mention that he's probably in his late 60's, if not early 70's....which is ok but I'm not sure he is up to date with other strategies. I'm thinking about switching docs but I live in a very remote town so it would be challenging.
This is such a wild process isn't it? I am so grateful that websites like this exist so we're able to get lots of knowledge on the subject.
Best of luck to you as well!

The HSG test is easy... they like to do it between CD 6 and 9 I believe it was..

I started my IVF process on the 24th...so I am on the way...feel free to stalk my journal if you wish

GOOD LUCK!!!

I like the older guys for deliveries, but they probably aren't too up to date on infertility info.
Maybe switch back to him when you're pregnant?

I have read that the HSG is fine if your tubes are all clear, but painful if they are not....

Hiya, I had an HSG last July and its not too bad:flower: I cramped for about 10-15 sec and was fine afterward. If your tubes are blocked its more painful but it took about 15 mins in total and wasn't bad at all, they usually tell you to take ibuprofen or paracetamol beforehand in case its uncomfortable but I really didn't need anything:haha: HSG is the next step for testing along with DH's SA and from there they usually decide on treatment which can vary by doctor or clinic. Best of luck:flower:

Thank you guys SO much! You all rock! I am not too worried about the HSG, but I feel reassured now. I was just so happy they could see my ovaries and saw follicles on my own doing! I had this fear they were gonna be like "uh you have no ovaries and no follicles anywhere." LOL. I know, I can be a hypochondriac and dramatic, hee. But, it was my first time so I was a bit worried. Still am, but trying to have hope and faith so thank you all so much! I usually ovulate on the 11th day so I am gonna try real hard to catch one of those eggs they saw hahaha! Thanks everyone and good luck to us all!

I had the HSG too, I would say that it was like really painful cramps..but it varies person to person...the more saline they use, the worse the cramps...they do suggest ibuprofen 2 hours before procedure, and they usually dose you with antibiotics...starting the night before, day of, and then day after....to prevent any infection.

and then like crystal said, based on what they see, they can devise a plan of attack....of how you will be treated.

Dana it all sounds very positive so far, no? Good luck!

Just wanted to wish u good luck on your journey and lots of :dust::dust::dust::dust:

Thank you guys so much! I am hopeful! The doctor told me if we do confirm low reserve with my next FSH test, he recommends DHEA for 3-4 months. I know nothing about DHEA, why he'd pick it over clomid, etc., but I do know we can't afford IVF so here's hoping if I use/need DHEA it is a miracle worker!

Thank you all for the support and hope!

-Dana
