Has anyone already done the NCT course - I have a question....

I just booked up the course and have paid and cant wait, there is a day when it is ladies only. I dont think this is to do with breast feeding as the breast feeding is the following class- is it about your lady bits???! xx

Oooh I am on the NCT course and have done 2 sessions so far. I havent noticed anywhere that says ladies only on my particular course but maybe it depends where you live??

Mine is in Gidea Park, Essex. There are 5 evening classes and 2 mornings. Its the 2nd class - it says 'women only' next to it then the 3rd class says 'breastfeeding session'. Im intrigued!!! x

I had my last nct class on wednesday. We had six sessions, all of which were mother and partner, no ladies only. I had thought the bf one might be, but it wasn't. Best ask the course facilitator. I'm sure you'll enjoy your classes

My OH cant make the BF one anyway - due to his work he cant make 2 of the classes and isnt invited to the ladies only one so he'll only be at 4 of the 7 classes.
Will I be comfortable going on my own to the classes he cant make or is it easier to take a friend? x

Hmmm, interesting question!! We never had a ladies only session when we did our course last month - but there was one where the men were sent to talk in another room for half an hour, and yes it was about you "lady bits" - basically about pelvic floor exercises and why you need them.

Hope you enjoy your classes, ours were really fun and we are all still in contact now - in fact I'm the last one left pregnant. Come on baby!!

I actually went to the bf session on my own (DH couldn't get there) and it was fine and I was the only one on her own. You'll feel comfortable by that session (it was class no. 3 for me I think).

I've done all my classes now and we had a ladies only one. It covered a lot about tearing/pushing/breathing etc and we also just got to ask all the things that we might ask in front of OH but not in front of other blokes, so like sex and periods after that sort of thing. In some ways I think it would have been good for dads to be there, especially as we covered alot on bretahing techniques, but I definitely wouldn't have asked a lot of the questions I did with other men there, so can see why they make it ladies only.

Oh and we also did some hip swaying etc and pelvic floor exercises, so defo not something you'd necessarily do in front of strange men!

I've just finished mine - we did an intensive one and there was no ladies only bit but i heard elsewhere it was so you could talk about lots of lady bits stuff. The breastfeeding bit isn't graphic so i'm not suprised that is on a different day.
lucyluvspoppy - we had one woman on her own at ours and it was fine, we didn't do anything in pairs. Although it was small class so it might depend on how big your class is? I don't think it is uncommon, just do whatever feels most comfortable to you.
I would highly recommend NCT to anyone who hasn't done it yet, i feel really excited about the whole thing now and a lot more informed about what is going to happen. x

Dunno, I booked mine and then cancelled as I couldn't be arsed with the role play that the tutor apparently does a lot of! They sound good though. Probably just a session to allow you to talk freely without men folk around.

We had a ladies only session. We mostly did stuff about breatfeeding during it. I wasn't looking forward to going to a session without OH but it was a nice opportunity to get to know the other girls a bit better.

oh god role play? That sounds horrid. We didn't have to do any of that thankfully. It must be an individual thing from tutor to tutor.

Oh yes, absolutely, I think it was just her. A lady that I work with said that she also went to classes with this tutor and there was a lot of role play, pretending to be a cervix etc. My idea of hell! Luckily it is also the husband's worst nightmare so we decided to pull out and stick with the NHS ones. Shame, because I was looking forward to meeting local people etc, but ours were over 2 whole days so we wouldn't have had the regular contact anyway.
