Has anyone successfully argued for a different EDD?

I know when I ovulated so my EDD by my calculations is 15th February. LMP puts me at 10th Feb and my scan at 11th Feb.

The same happened last time (ovulation 9th May, LMP 3rd May, scan 5th May) I was told they have to go by the scan date and so when Rosie was born on the 20th May I had to be monitored and wasn't allowed to use the pool because I was too 'overdue'.

I'm worried this time as it ended in EMCS last time around and so I know I will get pressure to ELCS the longer I go over 40 weeks. I'm therefore keen for my official due date to be as late as possible.

I haven't seen the consultant yet but just wondered if anyone had been in a similar situation and had managed to get their due date adjusted??

Thanks for any help :flower:

I'm going to stalk this thread, as I'm interested to know this too! Same situation: I know when I ovulated, but my scan put me 4 days ahead for the EDD. I'm also hoping for a waterbirth, and didn't realize that it might not be possible if bubs is overdue.

Edd based on scan is Nov 2, based on OV is Nov 4, based on LMP Nov 5.

Getting a C, so the earler edd works better for us!!

As far as I know they always go by the 12 week scan. We had icsi so know pretty much the exact hour we ovulated but they still changed our EDD by 5 days, I guess its just approximate which is why there is so much variation when babies come. When I asked the midwife why they'd changed our EDD she said it was because they always go of the scan.

I was in the same situation with my first and ended up overdue (according to them) and being induced.
This time they've done the same - again, I know my dates, know when i'm due, and when I had my 12 week scan they brought my date forward again.
I'm considering this time whether or not to be induced if I go over their due date, but the hospital is so far away, and my husband works so far away - I had a quick labour first time and i'm worried i'll have the baby in the car if I go into labour naturally!

You can't know the date of your ov for sure-- you still have a range of 2-3 days. In any case I told the doc the lengths of my cycles and then my LMP so he knew from whereabouts to calculate. and it is always measuring spot on- . If your bubs didnt measure to date often they would have adjusted it anyway so and in any case full term is a long range too ;)

I'm in the same position. I used a Clearblue Fertility Monitor and the day that my scan puts me at means I would have conceived the day before my first high and a few days before my peak. I want to keep my date, 1st December, because as an over 40 mum I'm not allowed to go overdue. I also want to leave my mat leave to the last minute so every day counts!
I'm seeing a consultant on 30th July and I'm going to try argue my case.....

Hm... Interesting question. I haven't had any scans, so my due date is based just on the first day of my last period.

I disagree. I certainly knew exactly when I ov'd each time. To the hour most times! And how about women who have IVF/ICSI, you can't argue about when a procedure is done to put the embryo back.

Giving the doc the length of your cycle CAN make the calculation somewhat more accurate, but not if like me I ovulate between CD17 and CD26 and my LP is between 3 and 14 days long depending on what hormones I use etc.

Anyway, to the OP, with DS they put me a week forward and I let them because it is nice to be ahead! This time they put me a day behind my ov date and I did try argue because it annoys me, but I thought it is not worth pushing the issue because babies just come when they want to.

I have also had 3 friends try to get their EDD by scan to be changed to line up with their IVF dates and it's been refused. It seems ridiculous to me because that date is more accurate than the scan. My theory is, if they won't believe the dates from another medical procedure at the same hospital/clinic, why would they believe women like us who just use tools like OPKs, temping, CM and CP. Although I am confident I use these tools correctly (and have been doing so long enough not to make mistakes) there are a lot of idiots out there who get it wrong. IYKWIM.

I'm having the opposite problem. I know when I ovulated, and my 12 week scan measured EXACTLY where I should be based on ovulation. Thus, I should be due December 18, but my midwives say I'm due December 24. I have no idea where they're getting this date, but I haven't been able to change their minds. I just hope that I don't go into labour too early...

Thanks for your replies everyone. Obviously I can't be 100% sure when I ovulated but I am pretty sure as I was temping, monitoring cm and using opks. From what everyone says it sounds unlikely they'll change my date although I'll still bring my charts to my next appointment and give it my best shot! I'll report back...

I have a similar situation. My EED based on LMP is Oct 22nd, based on Ov is 19th Oct and based on Scan is 16th Oct. So my current EDD is 16th. I just figured she'll come when she comes and there is only a 3 day difference between scan date and my date x

Unless you monitor /have IVF you won't know when you ovulated. it is not possible-- pains and similar can be before and after ovulation- fetilisation can be up to 3 days after ov atoo.

When it is a window of a week or so, does it really matter? No one can make you have surgery earlier or be induced earlier if you don't want to. I would correlate the date with the scans and see how they match up and at the end of the day, if there is nothing wrong with the placenta and there is no reason to induce or section you when it suits their diary, tell them to back off as you are comfortable going the extra days. Just remember that placentas can crap out at 35 weeks or 42 weeks. Some much earlier. I think at the end of the day, the EDD is irrelevant to the clinical picture. I have had a EDD of 3 Feb but changed it to the 4th as I don't like odd numbers. I knew it would have no effect on the outcome and baby was born on 22 Jan. My other babies were born five and three weeks early so it matters for nothing really except for when baby is really prem. They monitor growth if there is a problem so it won't have a huge impact on that. I would just relax and make your own plans with the advice of your dr.

i asked the doctor in the ER about this, well about how the dating works, because baby measured a week further then what LMP had me at, and it didnt make a ton of sense to me being that it didnt fit in anywhere with anything. she basically told me that LMP is a base guess, they really determiine DD on the growth of the baby because they all grow at the same rate within the first 12 weeks. so if baby is measuring at a certain date, thats what it is. the only thing that could be wrong, is them not actually getting an accurate measurement due to the way bubs is laying inside you. my first scan had put me 6 days ahead of what i thought, then a few minutes of looking and measuring, they tacked on an extra day because they hadnt gotten an accurate measurment that first time.

I am the same, by last period I'm due 3rd which makes me 31 wks tomorrow but they adamant I'm due the 7th. Went for first scan thinking was 12 wks to the day, got told was 9+1 :-( then next scan at 12 wks said 7th oct, then scan at 21 wks put me at 22 wks! So I give up lol sticking with the 3rd oct x x

I'm the same - tracking ovulation and conceived on the 21st April (LMP was the 9th). By my dates, I'm due on the 13th/14th Jan, scan dates measured with a due date of 9th Jan. now I KNOW that this date is wrong as my hubby returned from a weeks business trip on the 20th April ... There's NO WAY I conceived when they think I did. This discrepancy has already had quite drastic consequences as the NT scan and bloods, based on scan dates gave me a high risk of baby having down syndrome. I had an amnio yesterday and guess what? Baby measured bang on 16 weeks (consistent with my dates) with no other markers for any abnormalities. The OB explained that a week either way for scans is normal and they're not going to change my due date. I'm now worried that they'll put me under pressure to induce. They'll have a fight on their hands!!
