My dad was going to look after our 3 year old on Friday while we have our anatomy scan, but sadly he has a funeral to attend so he can't help us anymore. We've asked around but nobody else is free. OH has taken the day off work but he really wants to come to the scan. We're considering bringing our son and if he acts up then OH will just have to take him out to the waiting room but at least they'll see some of it.

Our only worry is what if something is wrong and they have to tell us in front of Micah?

What would you do? Our only options really are bring him or I go alone. :(

I would take him. I've had 2 scans already and have plenty more to come (I've gone private) and Darcey has been to the 2 I've already had and will be at them all. She's the same age as Micah. She had very little interest and sat looking at her book. Both scans were internal too. She even told MiL that I was at the dentist! Now I'd be very concerned if a dentist was looking that way!!

 I'd love to see her roleplaying 'dentists'!

Ive mixed feelings about this. Ive taken my lo's and probably would again, but only if my husband was there too.
I had Amy aNd William with me (then 3yrs and 9 months) at the scan when I was told Alfie had no heartbeat. It was awful having them there, and it traumatised Amy. For a good 12 months afterwards she would scream if we had to go to hospital or the Drs, because in her eyes, it was the Nurse that had made mummy cry, so she must have hurt me.

I'm sure everything will be fine at your scan, and when all is ok, it's a lovely experience for them, you just have to use your own judgement I yhink x

My hospital wouldn't allow children in thr ultrasound rooms. But if I could bring him I would. It would be better than going alone. Imo.

I took madi...madi was at my scan for my mmc which is y i didnt take her to my 12 week scan
.however 20 week i saw no harm as if there was a issue they take u seperatly Nyway in a room im told..

Xx

I think it will be fine. They usually don't last longer than 10 minutes.. in my experience anyway.

Wow! That seems so short. Mine was about 45 mins just for thr ultrasound. Another 10-15 mins with the doctor.

My son has been in 3 scans with us, I didn't take him into the 20 week one because we had a leaflet given to us which stated its very detailed and could take a while so it wasn't advised to bring children. It was a good job we didn't because she tried for am half an hour to see everything and couldn't, sent us out for 20 mins and tried again with no luck. The rescan I had no choice but to take him but I was only in there 10 mins. So id say if there's no other way, then take him, but like you said if he's unhappy be prepared for your OH to have to leave with him. All 3 scans that jensons been into he's been very fascinated though looking at baby and he even holds my hand while they do everything! Very sweet :)

My 4 year old has been to almost all my scans. He loves being a part of it. If there was a problem he really would not understand the exact language anyway. Also I think the doctor could ask to speak in private etc.

The military hospital we go to doesn't allow children to go back with you, so we had to drop her off at hourly care for it. We did bring her to the 19 week private scan that paid for, and she did fine at it. (they're so smart though, and provide toys for the little ones to play with while the parents are involved with the scan)

I know here the people that do the anatomy scans aren't allowed to say if something is wrong or not since they aren't a radiologist or licensed medical professional. But it was super quick (only 15 minutes), and I wouldn't have minded her being there if hospital policy allowed it.

You can always tell the person up front that if something is wrong to give you some kind of signal and then your husband could take him out to the waiting room. Otherwise just keep asking around and hope someone becomes free!

This time we did. Just our 3rd bub who was in a pram. My scan was pretty quick and DH didn't need to take him out of the room.
Hopefully your DS behaves :)

My almost 3 year old came to the scan and was fine. I would recommend bringing some books or toys for him if the place doesn't have any as that saved me.

My husband and son have came to all three scans so far and will be at the others. He's 2 1/2 so doesn't pay attention. During my anatomy scan at the hospital he sat and ate a snack and played a game on the tablet. It took maybe 25-30 minutes.

We aren't allowed to take children into our scans so I would just double check your hospitals policy before you take him.

What is it with dentists?! My 5 yo DD came with us to the 12 week scan as it was during school holidays and she was also on about my dentist's appointment on the way there.

Not allowed at our local hospital. We took him to a private scan at 10 weeks but he is too little to understand. It was really because we couldn't get a sitter.

I'd check the hospital rules. All the hospitals in our area only allow one other person at the 20 week scan. No kids. I'm UK too. Also I'd be worried if there is something wrong it could be very stressful.

Although older we've taken DS to 12 week and he was fine, he found the whole thing hilarious and couldn't stop laughing his head off at the baby moving around! We were there for over an hour as it took so long to get measurements and we had to go in twice.

Take something you know he likes to play with and pull it out if he starts to get restless.
