Has anyone tried Shettles method?

Hi Ladies, I'm new here, just recently got my bfp for my third LO. I was just wondering if any of you tried the Shettles method when ttc, if so do you think you got the desired gender that you wanted? I myself have two boys already and really want a girl as I think this may be the last time. I bd'ed on april 30, and got a positive opk on may 2nd which means I O'ed May 3rd. Needless to say, I got pregnant!! Since I was trying for the girl, we bd'ed in the missionary position and I did not orgasm (sorry if tmi). Did anyone do the same and end up with their girl, or vice versa? Just curious on how accurate this method is.

nope but i always orgasm before dh and apparently shettles said that gives more chance of a boy, we had a boy and this time i havea strong feeling it will be a boy too xx

SOrry to be a bit controversial, but does it really matter if it's a boy or a girl. Understand it would be nice to have a girl after two boys, but surely the most important thing would be that the baby is healthy?

Oh definitely, I would want a healthy baby more than anything, that is what's most important to me. But there's no harm in trying for a different sex. Regardless, if it is a boy, I will still love him just as much! I just thought that I would try for the girl is all.

Congrats to you winegums on your pregnancy! Yes, according to Shettles method I think it would be a boy too, but you never know what the man upstairs has planned. Have a happy and healthy nine months!

Everyone has different opinions.

I have a little girl who will be 6 this christmas. I would love to give my husband a son. #1 every man (almost) wants a son #2 my husband is the only person left in his family to carry on his name #3 my daughter wants a brother to play Wii with

On the other hand I would adore a little girl again also, as my daughter is the only girl in the entire family (children wise - my husband is the only man adult wise!).....my sister in laws and my sisters and brothers have also had all boys!

But I would have to agree that even though OUR most important GOAL for baby is to be healthy, there is absolutely nothing wrong with secretly hoping or trying a method for one gender over another (for whatever reasons).

Wow thanks Zanny, that was really helpful information. It's amazing that Dr shettles book would claim those percentages if it were not true. Im glad at least to see that the girl method had a higher percentage than the boy method as that is what i was trying for. Oh well, I guess in a few months we will see just how reliable dr shettles method really is LOL

Same here! We dtd 3 days before I ovulated and got pregnant!! We have a little boy who will be 3 on the 21st, I'm hoping for a little girl . I've also read that your supposed to dtd everyday from the end of your period to 3 days before you ovulate. But we didn't do this part of it. I think we dtd about 5 days before the bd that conceived this little one. So we'll see in a couple months!!!

I've heard alot of people try the shettles for a girl and got a boy...vice versa apparently if u want a girl not to have sex on ovulation day, but ive heard women have girls when having sex on ov day...i think its just pot luck.

I no what u mean hun, i think most women would like a little girl eventually...there's nothing wrong in trying to sway the odds for a certain gender. Im not sure what gender im carrying and really not fussed as long as he/she is healthy as a button but i can admit that if this one is another boy, maybe next time i would lean more to wanting a girl just so i can experience raising both genders

We kind of accidentally did some of the Shettles method. We BD'd a few days before O, and in missionary. Not everything else fit, though, but I should probably have a girl according to Shettles. But DH and I are convinced this is a boy. I'm not fussed either way, really. I guess if pushed I'd prefer a girl first, then a boy, then another girl. But this one with be welcome and loved whichever s/he is.

Well we did TRY!! We got everything right apart from the timing The most important thing!!! Arghhh!!!

I ovulated on the 8th and BD on the 6th and the 3rd.. Im guessing we concieved from the BD on the 6th, so 2 days before which is a grey area with Shettles. I didnt orgasm and we did the missionary and on the spur of the moment thing, BEFORE researching properly I douched with vinegar and water right before BD.

If by miracle I concieved this time with the BD from the 3rd then chances are better... but after 3 boys Im not holding out much hope!!!

What will be will be and boys rock!!!!! Just be nice to have a change and for DH too but we are so thankful after 3 losses to have our boys and be expecting again that we really dont mind!! But yes, if we could choose, we'd choose a girl!!

iv never heard of shettles method before .as i already have boy and girl i just want healthy baby. iv waited far too long for this baby and enjoyin every wk .there is gender predictor on babyzone mayb u could try it and see what it predicts you having mine says boy but i wait and see im not rushin out 2 buy blue just yet

I would adore a girl, And of course we are happy with a healthy baby regardless of sex, But as we wasnt trying i cannot say we tried any method ..

But !! With my son there dates seem to point out i feel before ovulation i know we did Missionary .. (Was tired and easiest postion lol) And i certainly didnt orgasm and we now have a healthy 3 year old little boy so i am inclined to agree its just pot luck.

After I got my BFP last month I decided o look back at my charting for the month prior into last month. I already have a beautiful 5 year old daughter. And by my comment posted on page 1, I would lean towards a boy but another girl would be fabulous also. I noticed we do a variety of positions and I orgasm every time.
CD11 Me on top O'd Used my softcup
CD13 Missionary O'd Used my softcup/ on OPK and I noticed I had noticed I had written 'BEST SEX EVER' on that date! winkwink: hmmm? mustv'e done it!)
CD14 Behind O'd Used my softcup/ neg on OPK

Plus I O'd 5 days earlier than I ever did that cycle I got my bfp!

Those three day were the only days I BD within 2 weeks time!

So because my positions for BD were all over the place and since I always O'd, what do you girls think?.....

apparently pre-seed helps concieve a boy as it has a high ph ...when we tried for kaden we used pre-seed, had sex every OTHER day (which is also boy zone area cus it increases sperm level, and we had sex ovulation day...this time we wernt really trying we just did it..and we did things alot different to when trying for kian and kaden (not on purpose, just looking back i noticed we have), but im still convinced little boo is a boy, and kian wants a brother so much i really dont mind...heres to a healthy pregnancy to each and everyone of us

My sister and I tried this method, and we both ended up pregnant! (Due dates are 1 day apart!!!)... she's hoping for a boy, myself a girl.

I only had sex on ovulation day. Did not orgasm and with did it with oh on top. We want a boy but looks like that because i did not orgsm to lower ph levels, it may be a girl. I guess i will find out on the 1st july.
