Honestly I dread it every week!
Feel like I'm not getting anywhere, and it's my fault not the instructers.

I just don't fee like anything 'clicks' with me at all when it comes to it.

Have been doing them since July and don't feel like I'm close to passing at all.

Has anyone else felt like this? Doesn't come naturally to me at all

I felt like this a little bit. I always found I did better when I went out driving with my Dad rather than in my lessons. My instructor basically told me he didn't think I'd pass my test, but I did with no minors! I honestly didn't feel ready for it, I wanted to cancel it but thought I'd better go for it and I'm glad I did.
Can anybody take you out? I had one lesson a week, and went out nearly every night with my Dad. That really built up my confidence.
You're probably better than you think :flower:

Meeeee!
I hated them, I hated driving, I had no confidence at all, I was a nightmare haha.
But just don't give up, I didn't because all I wanted to do from being younger was to be able to drive and have my own car! It took me 18 months of lessons but I passed first time!
I've been passed 3 years now and I don't know what I'd do without being able to drive :)

Have you tried doing that driving DVD on the computer? It really helped me :hugs:

Is there anything particular your struggling with? How many hours are you doing a week?

I did and hated it!

I switched to automatic, passed first time and never looked back xx

I HATED learning to drive it was awful, just learn to pass your test then you will learn to drive when you have passed in your own time. It is worth it in the end :flower:

Yes, I absolutely hated learning to drive. I know you say its you and not your instructor but I'd really consider having a lesson with someone else, I had an instructor for almost a year and just got nowhere. I thought it was me but when I got a different instructor it was crazy how much I came on. I till wasn't a natural by any means but he got me to test standard within a few months. Switching to automatic made a big difference for me too. Hang in there, passing your test is such an amazing feeling of achievement!

Tbh, yeah I did- I passed yesterday after starting lessons a year ago. It just takes time, its not a 'natural' thing to do, you have to think about so many different things at once- it just takes tones of practice :)

I still don't feel ready to drive on my own x

I HATED IT - i passed first time and drove on and off for a year but ony if i had too and i just hated it so much i just stopped - its been 6 years nearly since i drove and i still have know desire to want to drive at all - people keep suggesting to try automatic but will that really make a difference? plus there is still the finacial hiccup of being able to affrord to buy a car lol x

Yes automatic makes so much difference. I was fine with the clutch and gears but when I switched it changed my attitude towards driving so much! I had confidence I never knew I had before and actually enjoyed my lessons x

I hated my manual driving like Midnight above and switced to Automatic and passed within a few months, I know you say it isn't the instructor but I found changing till one clicked made a huge difference too. x

I hated learning to drive, and my driving test (s) lol were the worst stress I've ever experienced! Honestly though don't give up, I wasn't a "natural" at driving and still not 100% confident and I passed over a year ago, I car share with my hubby though and he goes to work in it everyday so I don't get to use it alot. Once you've got it, noone can take it away from you, and it's something great to have under your belt- it's a new lease of freedom in a way! Good luck xxxx

thanks - i have no problem with the clutch and gears either but maybe in the future when buying a car becomes a reality i may give it a go thank you x

I never even tried driving a manual just went straight into an auto. It's easy and I love driving now :)

I would always try manual over automatic, in the UK there just aren't the same number of automatics around as there are in places like the States and they're more expensive, you never know when you'll be in the position to need to drive another car which most likely will be a stick, so I would only do automatic as a last resort :)

I have to really disagree with this, it just isn't the case anymore:flower:

Yep I disagree too. My first auto car was so cheap to run and when it did break it was fixed for £12 lol. I never had a problem finding a car that was an auto. I found my car easily 2days after I passed my test and I sold it for good money when I got this newer car. x

Also, you shouldn't have a problem getting a curtosy car that is automatic either. I have never had a problem as most have them for the mobility scheme anyway!

Happy to be proven wrong :) it doesn't help I have a husband who says it isn't driving lol so this is a somewhat biased household! I only know one person with an automatic and she's getting rid, I was told they weren't much use in Wales with our steep roads but I imagine that is something that has changed nowadays. Interesting to know they are cheap to run though, I still wouldn't wouldn't just have an automatic licence though because it limits you too much, at least with a full licence you can drive both, but then I rarely have to drive any other cars lol....but you never know lol...

Yeah I agree too. I've had a courtesy car that was an auto. Never had an issue really to be honest
